Since going on weekly Humira and Canasa nightly I feel much better. I actually feel like the wound in my gut is healed. I haven't seen blood in awhile. Some mucus. Colonoscopy for this spring to re check.

But of course that's not the end.. Now I can't hardly poop without laxative. I may go a little in the morning I think due to suppository but after that there is just no urge and no push. I tend to not go for about three days and then the pressure pain is so bad I have to take laxative to relieve the pain. about an hour later I get diarhea even on a half dose. My GI said it's okay for now but doesn't want it longterm.

He suspects that the rectum is thickened too much and the valve just doesn't open well. That does sound about right but it all seems so weird. He wrote a prescription for misoprostol 200 mg. Off label use but thinks it may help provide some push in my colon. I guess he's had success with it before. He said it should get better as I continue to heal

Also changed Metimucil for Benefiber twice a day. I'm just starting all of this so we will see what happens.

I eat yogurt and try to stay on a good diet. I'm maintaining my weight and generally feel fairly good. I try to balance my diet because I still have alot of diverticulosis as well.

Anyone else have this while healing? Suggestions

For last year I've had diarrhea and bleeding and was on Prednisone and after colonoscopy on Lialda 4per day as well as Canasa nightly. Recently now no more diarrhea but problems with feeling bound up and really needing to push to get stool out. Problems with hemmorhoids too as a result.

I'm thinking now that the ulceration is healing and that I've been on so much mesalamine now for last six months my system is going back to the constipation that I would experience when I had Proctitis. Not sure which is worse, the D or the C. Also having problems with my bladder now too having to pee more frequently.

I don't really have constipation like I've had before. The stools are not large or dry. Its not like I should poop but can't. There isn't really pressure. There is no movement. It is a very different feeling. The only clue it's a problem is when I get pain in my upper ab from the colon stretch. I'm curious how the new med might work or not. It feels like there is almost no feeling in the colon at all.

Valve? I would think that unless you have a stricture, a higher dosage of rectal meds should be used such as retention enemas or at the very least to double the canasa.

Maybe try that before the misoprostol?

Are you eating any fruits? An orange and peeled apple chewed well can help. Are you taking the fibre with meals?

Do you have any rectal-narrowing (a stricture) from scars as your UC healed?

Earlier in the year, when I realised I was not pooping for days on end it turned out I had colostrum difficile. When you poop is it formed stool or just mainly mucus? If it's just mucus then it might be worth having a stool test... just to rule it out.

GI thinks the rectum is thicken enough that it is not opening properly. He seems to think it will get better as I continue to heal. Funny I dont have alot of feeling in the rectum either. Just trying to figure out when to be concerned too. I guess ideally a movement every day but for sure every other.

The new med misoprostel is suppose to help add push to the colon. I haven't started it yet because I want to talk with my obgyn first since I'm have a D & C on Tuesday and dont want to have an issue.

poppie, it is definitely alittle of everything. Formed, and some mucus on and off. No blood. Diarrhea is also common but not always. Not consistent at all really. I don't seem to be able to gain control. I continue to work on it. I don't think it's an infection. I avoid stool tests if I can. I've had them before and they are expensive. My insurance doesn't cover them for some reason. Usually they are good paying. I hate paying 200 plus for a negative which has been the case three times last year. If I have steady diarrhea I would but it's not like that at all. Thanks

Lead-piping in another possibilty (how it looks under xray). Thick rectum walls make it hard for the muscles to work as they should. As inflammation heals the thickened walls should reduce to more normal thickness.
