You need a better GI it sounds like to me. You're on 20mg of prednisone? That's often not a high enough dose to induce remission. Sounds like you have multiple issues, all stemming from the fact that your doctor hasn't been upfront with you about your condition and treatment. You should be on maintenance medication along with the steroids - you should have been on maintenance meds a long time ago actually. You should have likely started on a higher dose of steroids to get things to 100% too. After 13 years, you should probably have a better idea of what symptoms are common of a flare up. Yes, blood in the toilet, not just once in a while, for me, it was all the time. Depends on the severity of the ulcers. Symptoms vary greatly between people, but in severe cases, it can lead to debilitating symptoms, include nausea, cramps, gas, nocturnal BMs, urgency/inability to hold it, tenesmas, frequent movements (sometimes 20+ a day), nothing formed, fatigue, anemia - an awful mess. When was your last scope? What is the extent of your UC?

I feel your pain. When I quit smoking that kicked off the first UC flare I had ever had. As everyone else said you should be on steriods and a maintenance med. Perhaps consider finding a new GI.

I forgot to mention I'm on 40mg of prednisone and for the love of me I can't get that apriso down I've tried and tried to swallow that big horse pill I can't I make myself sick from trying

A couple possibilities:

1.) We can get bowel spasms that are very painful and are treated with prescription antispasmatic medications, ask your gastroenterologist about them.

2.) When we have very severe rectal inflammation passing a solid or semi-solid bm can feel like we're pooping broken glass: very painful. The solution is to take rectal medications to treat that inflammation. Anti-inflammatory rowasa enema, canasa suppository, or mesalamine foams are your best bets.

We have a few posters who have issues swallowing pills. I put one in my mouth and take a big sip of water and then swallow. They certainly are big horse pills though.

How can they tell your inflammation is in the traverse? Did they do a scope? UC almost always starts from the rectum and moves upward in a continuous fashion.

And this is my fourth flare out of the 13 years diagnosed but this is the first one that's been this bad and mine always started low but this time it didn't it started up high is that a bad thing?

I'm gonna have to get that down some how it's just so hard I struggle so bad to swallow pills and def if they big ones, but can someone help me understand is it normal to hurt and cramp real bad like that with a BM that's only time I hurt and cramp now? It use to be alot and many bathroom trips all through the day thank god that's better. I'm just scared of this cramping bad pain with passing stool and the cramping is up high and on left side I'm scared of this disease so bad
