suggestions for UC natural remedies

l am really glad to find this group and l really need some help.

My boyfriend has ulserative colitis and we've been having a rough time for 2 months. Doctors tried everything to stop flaring up but after two sets iv steroids and two times infliximab, he has still very high inflammation. Doctors think after third infliximab -the third one will be given two weeks later, if he still has the high inflammation, he has to have operation but we are very worry about this situation. He doesnt want tı have an operation.

After this point, l think we can only try natural remedies to help the third infliximab. l would really like to learn your experiences about natural remedies, foods or other suggestions.

Sorry to hear your boyfriend is struggling. Not sure of everything you've already tried as you only mentioned remicade and IV steroids. Tell us more if you can.

There's a small percentage of us who are non responders to all traditional treatments and surgery quickly finds us. Ditto on it isn't anything to be feared. It's quite safe and quickly gives people their life back. The most common surgery results in the end with an IPAA or J-pouch, which enables him to poop as he does now, and he will have a few small scars on his abdomen from the laproscopic process.

Often UC responds best to a combination of medications given simultaneously. In my case I did reach a remission (a total absence of UC symptoms) via remicade but it did also take 6MP, Lialda, rowasa, and prednisone to achieve it.

tumeric milk tea (actually it is delicious and doesn't taste like curry. NB black pepper is very important to increase absorption);

flaxseed oil;
collagen powder;
high fibre diet and cut out the sugars and processed foods works pretty well for me. Diet is the key.

Firstly thank you so much to everyone. His flare up started on 20th December and this is the longest he's had. Usually he's been able to recover from prednisolone steroid after a few weeks. He had to go to hospital at 29th December and put on course of iv steroids two times. However he relapsed when the doctors put him back onto oral steroids. Because we are in the UK. The doctors have only given us the option of infiximab and l think because of funding if he doesnt respond to the 3rd infliximap treatment then surgery would be the next option.
Now we are looking at some natural remedies and diet to control symptoms to avoid surgery. The reason we are mostly trying to avoid surgery is because previous to this flare up he was in remmission for three years.

Thank you so much. Last couple of days l researched about diets in detail. Paleo is the most popular one l think and l worths trying of course. Now the our most important problem is stopping abdominal cramps. It starts after dinner generally. Do you have any experience to stop these cramps?

Which kind of Chinese herbs did you use to recover yourself? We tried to the heating pad but actually it didnt work.

The abdominal cramping was my worst problem. I used to sleep with a heating pad on my stomach. It helped but didn't eliminate the pain. It took months to get that under control. I suppose it takes that long to heal?
