Hi everyone. Just wondering how many are on birth control HRT or if anyone has used natural supplements for pms symptoms

I went on bioidentical hormones about a year ago. The repeated high doses of pred had my hormones all out of whack, as well as my thyroid. The hormones have helped me immensely- if you are struggling with pms or other symptoms, you may want to consider getting a hormone panel done.

Thanks for your reply. Is that a regular blood test? I'm just curious as to how many use it due to increased clotting risk in IBD. I've also read today of the increase clot risk associated with steroids as well (which I've never been on)

Hi Petah- yes, it's done with a blood test and is pretty simple. I was on the pill before I was diagnosed, but after hearing about how it could contribute to leaky gut I stopped. I am happy you have never been on steroids- they are amazing and horrible all at the same time. Hahaha.

I just started taking the progesterone only pill in December. I was having crazy periods and was given the option of a 5 day course once a month or the mini pill to decrease the heavy bleeding. Since my body seems to like the progesterone phase of my cycle, I went with the constant dose of hormones. The only drawback is that they can make ovarian cysts worse and I do get those. So far things are ok, but I am not quite done with my second pack of pills.

I take ortho tri cyclen low and have never had any issues with clotting. It's basically the lowest dose birth control that I can find that helps with the ovarian cysts. I've been on it one and off for over a decade, 5 years of that with UC too.

I've been on Yasmin (brand name,the generic now) for over 10 years. I've had UC for over 20 years and was on other various birth control pills before that (Loestrin, Orthotrycycline, and others I can't remember). I've never had any issue with clotting. In fact I take the pills continuously and don't have a period, which helps my UC as during my period my UC would always act up. I suppose its different for everybody though. I do workout a lot so maybe that helps with getting my circulation going.

I dont know what HRT means and I dont get PMS, but I have been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen almost the entire time I have had UC (2007), with a few breaks when I was single. No issues here.
