Smallfry,
That's a new way of application to me. Did your GI explain the advantage of of the mix, and how crushed does the tablet have to be? Is the steroid pred, and what strength?
I asked for some kind of cortisone enema for topical help, but the doc indicated that would only help way low down and not in the sigmoid where I need help.
I would be able to add a tablet to the Perrigo brand, carefully. It unscrews easily and there is enough air space.
Now I am wondering if I should apply a bit of cortisone skin cream (prescription strength) to the Perrigo tip.
Has anyone heard of a non-traditional way of topical medication like this? After a miserable day today I don't think I have much to lose.
It is methylprednisolone 4mg. She wants me to crush up 4 tablets into a powder and mix with the mesalamine.
I've been doing the mesalamine enemas nightly since November 1st and still had bleeding daily up until a few weeks ago. Now there is no bleeding unless I skip a night of doing the enema. I still have cramping and urgency, though, so she wants to decrease the inflammation.
I also did a hydrocortisone suppository for about
a month but there wasn't any change in symptoms. She's trying to avoid systemic meds, so she wants to try localized treatments first which I don't mind as I really don't want to have to take oral prednisone. She says that I can avoid the side effects by putting it directly into the affected area.
I haven't been able to do it yet because I can't
open the full bottle of mesalamine without squeezing it and losing most of the bottle. I'm thinking that I'll try the syringe trick first and hopefully that will work. Thanks!
