Proctitis help very depressed

Hi all just joined and would really appreciate some help, I was diagnosed with proctitis in sept 2012 but I've not had any major symptoms until Dec Jan this year. I was prescribed pentassa suppositories but was never told I need to keep a maintenance dosage. In December I started to get bloated and passed some mucus and I've had symptoms ever since. I've been taking the pentassa for 4to 5 weeks but mist two days the weekend before last. My symptoms have taken a real turn for the worst in the last 9 days bad cramps very low down huge gurgling tummy with bloating and in the last week lots of blood I'm not sure how much but always quite a bit of fresh blood on wiping, I went to my docs last Friday as I was really worried that the pentassa don't seem to be stopping the cramps or the bleeding and he told me he would speak to my consultant either today or tomorrow and call me back in reference to new medication. Sat was ok but back to normal ish but last night and up till this very moment I've been 8 times all bloody some no stool just blood and really really uncomfortable cramps every time followed by bleeding enough to turn the water pink and all bits of still covered in blood. I admit I'm petrified as previous I've had lots of mucus very little blood which has gone away after using pentassa. I feel so forested it's scary and dread going to the loo but can't avoid it I'm desperate for my doctor to call me back as I'm running out of pentassa but I really don't think it's working . I really just need someone to talk to as feel so scared and very down

unfortunately Hampy, it sounds like there's a possibility that your proctitis has spread - you really should be on at the very least an enema in addition to your pentasa supps - but you really need to be looked at to make a determination of your current condition -

Just spoke to my consultant she has asked for bloods and two stool samples this will allow them to measure how active the proctitis I should and another to rule out infections plus increased My pentassa x 2

This sounds just like what happened to me. Originally diagnosed with Ulcerative Proctitis but eventually spread to the sigmoid colon and was full blown UC. All bloody each time I went and lots of urgency and gurgling going on. Very scary to see in toilet and also so tiring from being up all night going and not being able to leave hour during the day.

You really need to get on some Prednisone to start healing the inflammation and also get a colonoscopy so your doctor can see just how much of your colon has been affected. Once I had mine and was started on oral Mesalamine , the bleeding and urgency began to subside and eventually stopped. I know how scary it feels, but once you are scoped and they see what's going on they will be able to get you on meds that will control it.
