Collected my CT Enterography report. Can anyone explain me what it indicates as am too anxious to wait for my doctor to explain it to me !

"There is minimal wall thickening and mucosal enhancement involving rectum, sigmoid colon, and adherent prominent vasa recti and tiny mesenteric nodes adjacent to it. The distal 20mms of terminal ileum appear to be collapsed and showing mucosal enhancement .
There are sub centimetre mesenteric nodes.
Rest of the small bowel loops are normal."

Ulcerative Colitis.
Currently on- Humira 40mg Bi-Weekly, Pentasa granules - 3gms, Folvite.
Diagnosed in 2015.

thickening is associated (but not 100% sure) IBD. the collapsed terminal ilium suggests maybe Chrons.

the prominent vasa recti is also something that gets discussed in the context of Chrons

but, the doc can say much better than folks here

Wall thickening is suggestive of inflammation within your rectum and sigmoid colon (that is ulcerative colitis with proctosigmoiditis).

A collapsed section means there was no fluid there at the time of the image and therefore its image is not useful for that section. The intestine is collapsed when empty with opposing walls touching (much like a gym sock laying flat in your drawer). When we have a colonscopy they pump air in to see, with radiography they use a volumen (a fluid) that is timed to reach the desired spot at the time of imagery.

Thanks John for that info.

I found that Mesenteric nodes are usually noted possibly from infammation, infection, or tumour. Yours are under 1 cm. I don't know what that means tho.

The vasa recta is basically specific blood vessels (straight arteries around the outside wall of the colon) Prominent mean engorged. Adherent mean stuck to or from. I'm not clear if this is at sigmoid area or ileum. If its' at the ileum....comb appearance isn't mentioned (which seems to be a term used to indicate CD).

In rereading the report it might mean minimally prominence (engorgement) of the vasa recta considering its in the same sentence. If its around the sigmoid...doesnt seem theres diverticulae or CD..... there is some increased mucus.

Thanks everyone.

The doctor said it's Chron's Disease..but the medicines will remain unaltered for the time being..This is scary! I don't know if Chron's is worse!

It is what it is..not worse or better. Having a diagnosis is a good thing.
Hopefully, your meds will deal with the inflammation and locations effectively, and it will be controlled without further complications.

What meds are you using now?
