UC Microbiome Drug in Development by Takeda/Finch

Unbelievably excited about this.

This does look very cool. It's stuff like this that makes me think that if I can get into remission and avoid surgery then maybe in a few years there will be some great new drugs to try if the stuff that works for me ever stops working.

The drug companies are all over the autoimmune diseases right now as we are now more likely to develop an autoimmune disease than either heart disease or cancer. It's a gravy train.

Thank you for sharing this. There is so much exciting research going on now around the micro biome. I started a round a month ago and it may be a coincidence but my mood and depression levels have done a 180. How the gut affects the brain is FASCINATING.....

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but ... do drug companies want to create a "cure"? I guess the advantage of that is the massive money making they would make while they have exclusive rights to the drug. But after that ... what happens? Do the companies just move on to other, uncured illnesses?

Perhaps a personal interest in faecal transplants by Mark Smith may give a reason in the interest for a "cure"?

Just to clarify, this is not being touted as a cure. The way that I see it is that this will be for those patients who don't want FMT for whatever reason, aversion to the idea, and physicians who want a more standardized treatment which makes regulation of a "product" more easy. As someone who works in the pharmaceutical industry, I can assure you that pharma companies do want a cure, because instead of making up 30% of a patients treatment regimen, you have 100% of patients wanting your treatment and are willing to pay a significant amount of money to cure their condition for the rest of their life. Pharma is like all big business no doubt, but if they knew of a cure they would never knowingly withhold something like that.

I am so hopeful for new therapies now that openBiome/Finch Therapeutics is partnering with Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Using the term therapy is obviously safer financially.

I am really dumb when it comes to medical research. All I know at this present moment is that this is the best I have physically felt in decades. I have no chronic fatigue, eczema, ear infections etc that have plagued me for most of my life since commencement FMT over a year ago and I am currently in UC remission.

The opportunity of faecal transplants as my ongoing therapy has been a blessing for myself and I am hoping for a much easier and safer path for others that may benefit from this partnership in the future.

Takeda Pharmaceuticals having access to a large data base and a suit algorithms to reverse engineer therapies certainly sounds promising. The limited clinical trials to date have been a real stab in the dark.
