Worse after colonoscopy

Hi everybody ..
I had a colonoscopy done on Friday due to pretty nasty blood clots.. Have had UC for about 17 years now. I am on Lialda and 20 mg of Prednisone. The Dr. Took biopsies and ever since the colonoscopy.. I have been running to the bathroom during the day about every fifteen minutes.. with blood clots. My husband says not to worry.. The scope was put in very inflamed tissue, plus biopsies would make my colon
inflammation worse as well. Has anyone gotten worse from a colonoscopy ...

What are your other symptoms regarding bms?

Yes....one can get worse regardi g bleeding from biopsies and a scope can exacerbate a flare subjectively.

What is the location extent of yiur UC.....and is the 20mg pred a tapering dosage from a higher one?

The Dr. seemed to feel without biopsy results .. I had left sided distal
Mild/ moderate UC. Yes I tapered from 40 mg down to 20.

My last colonoscopy I got temporarily worse. Fever the next day, and more D and blood. It resolved in about a week. Dr.'s office didn't seem concerned, but a complication could be C. Diff. I would call the Dr. and ask...Fever?

Your symptoms might be temporarily worse for 2-3 days after a colonoscopy as it is a very invasive procedure considering the prep, scope, and biopsies.

However, you should bounce back fairly quicky, and if you do not then contact your gasteroenterologist asap.

Had the colonoscopy Friday..In severe pain
and still bleeding more.. Dr. Saw me
yesterday as an emergency.. No fever..
Wants me to start 6MP.. increased my Prednisone
to 30mgs from 20.......
and added Rowasa enemas.. I will
never be able to retain the enemas..
and very afraid of 6MP's side effects.
I don't know what to do about
the severe pain.. wish I didn't
have the colonoscopy!!

I've been on 6MP 3 years and i have yet to experience a side effect...

Colonoscopy has some side effects. After my colonoscopy my GI himself told me you might notice more blood over next few days. I ask him why then he said they took 25 biopsies. I was stunned. I searched online how biopsies are taken.. and it became very obvious that some sharp needle or blade might be used to take samples. So if already inflamed colon is poked or cut at 25 places it will increase your symptoms. The blood clots are due to bleeding from places where biopsies are taken.
