Diagnosis and Sulfasalazine

Hi there,

After months of being very sick with suspected flare, I finally hit rock bottom and was passing an insane amount of blood, vomiting, D andmy doctor has ordered an URGENT scope since we were waiting too long with my first referral, I should be getting a scope this week or early next week, but my doctor wants to start me on sulfasalazine ASAP to see if we can manage the symptoms while we wait, I've also been on basically just SCD Intro diet since I can't really eat anything besides soup or jello.

Is this normal to start the meds before biopsies confirm UC? Will starting the meds prior to my scope affect the results of my colonoscopy? Should I be concerned about side affects of the meds?

Lastly, has anyone ever done SCD intro? I am blown away with how sick I was and now that I'm on jello and soup I haven't been able to use the bathroom for almost a full day (although I'm still gassy, bloated And have pain / false alarms) do you think it's just because there's nothing really in my system to come out anymore? at one point it seemed like the only thing coming out was pure blood and water anyway.. so I'm a bit taken aback, although relieved.
Any guidance is appreciated.

SInce the meds are used for ordinary colitis as well as UC, it is not a problem to use them w/o diagnosis. But if the inflammation is mild and the chronic aspect not too long, then the diagnosis by scope could be impaired.

But if the inflammation is severe, a few weeks of sulfazine should not make that much difference. Also if there has been chronic inflammation for some time, the changes in cell structure will still be there.
