Hi there I have just been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and was wondering if people suffered with a itchy bottom all
The time. I have had this problem for years but just had a colonoscopy and advised of this disease

This issue was horrible for me in the 6 months leading up to my most recent flare. My gastroenterologist was just telling me to treat my external hemmie with OTC hydrocortisone cream and I spent a long time hoping it would go away with just that. Turns out not only did I have the hemorrhoid, I had lots of inflammation and thickening of my rectal wall, which was discovered with a CT scan during my recent hospitalization.

So I guess my advice is, if it's really bad, don't stop advocating for yourself and insisting that there is something wrong. Cortisone cream is a band-aid, and a small band-aid at that. Now that I've been on antibiotics, prednisone, and using Canasa suppositories, my rectal itching and pain have FINALLY cleared up. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about the rectal meds, at least.

I have proctitis and I get unbearable itchiness at times - usually when I'm in a public place, naturally. Hemmies can cause anal itchiness, so if you do have hemmies try to get them sorted. Otherwise, I have found the best fix is to keep the area as dry and as clean as possible. When I go to the toilet I can never 'empty' all in one go. In fact sometimes I can't empty completely at all. But if I don't manage to empty it all out, I tend to be left with itchiness. So I'll be sitting in a public toilet for anything up to 10 minutes, which, while is a massive pain up the arse, is still less of a pain than wiping and going, being struck with horrible itchiness 5 minutes later, and needing to find another public toilet.
