Biopsy positive for colitis negative for UC

I was given antibiotics initially and given a stool sample to rule out infection

I talked to my regular doctor yesterday and he thought that because there was active inflammation during biopsys that if it was uc the crypts would have showed changes . And that it probilby is colitis vs uc. He wanted me to ask my gi doctor if the cancer risk is the same , which I was under the impression that the risk for cancer is low for uc anyway

Colitis basically means "inflammation of colon" it could be acute or chronic. Acute inflammation can be due to infection or something like that and can be cured with antibiotics. Chronic inflammation is due to immune system issue like in UC or Crohn's colitis. Sometimes they refer colitis when they can not differentiate between UC and Crohn's.

If you have symptoms for long time and they did not get resolve, it most likely chronic and may be IBD( General category for UC and crohn's).

Colitis is a one time thing and assuming it's cleared and gone for good then your colorectal cancer odds are equivalent to any one in the average population.
