Lialda passing whole

I have been taking Lialda for about a year, I am down to 2 pills in the morning. I do see them randomly in the toilet.
My doctor said it was just the outer shell. Well 2 days in a row they are there today I decided to poke it and it was whole pills with some of the coating gone. I took them at about 9am and they passed trough me 1:00pm

Anyone else have this issue?

It's werid but I can usually tell when it's going to happen, I usually feel like I need to go but it's never much when I do pass the pills. Almost like they upset my stomach sitting there.

I have felt great for months only urgency is more in the morning. After that I a usually good all day

Sometimes our body chemistry doesn't break down the outer coating in the pills. You could try a different 5Asa and see if that works. Usually when that happens to me I am beginning to flare. my doctor usually has me take an Imodium with my meds for a couple of days to slow down digestion and to give them a bit longer to work.

How frequently are you seeing whole lialda tablets passed in your poop? I'd see a whole tablet once a month or so, and in that frequency it's of no worry. If you're seeing them frequently then there's a problem. Lialda is a ph-based, delayed release coating. The coating dissolves once certain PH is reached in the body for certain lengths of time. Fast mouth-to-anus transit time doesn't give lialda time to dissolve fullyn in some cases.

The lialda casing is supposed to disintegrate and all you'll see is orange flakes in poop.

What you take the day before is probably what you're seeing in the toilet. Take them with food..


Once or twice a month isnt an issue. It could be a dud pill too.
