Just had my first followup colonoscopy since I was diagnosed in April 2015. No microscopic abnormalities. Definitely in remission but do I have UC?? In 2015 active chronic colitis? Could it have been something else all along? I am reducing meds. 50mg 6mp and biweekly humira. I see the GI next week. Thoughts

chronic is the definition of uc. why are you wondering if you were misdiagnoised?

if you can taper to lower maintenance doses that seems goo

It is good yes. I hope I can cut more. I'd really love to not have UC. It was all so strange. I had a colon resection because of diverticulosis with no sign of UC in biopsies to having chronic inflammation four months later and a horrible flare. Seemed more like inflammation from surgery. It's been two years and I am in remission. I'm much older than most individuals diagnosed as well. It's all been unreal.

I hope you don't, but i don't think age predicts much. Many people are diagnosed at later ages, actually it seems like people are diagnosed at all different ages from my reading here. Some in their very early years, some teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s... I feel like no one is ever safe from it completely. I wouldn't get too confident, but of course, you want to know. Just keep monitoring and hopefully you will find out one way or the other. I'd imagine if you had a conclusive diagnosis, you do have it, it's just in remission.

Hi. Our cases are very similar except I have a wonderful 17 months after my resection. Never had UC symptoms before -- just the diverticulitis. I was 64 when UC came on. My GI said the most common ages of diagnosis is 20's and 60's. Also heard from one Dr that sometimes resections will lead to UC. Didn't have that confirmed and I don't know if there's been studies done to confirm that opinion either.

I think it'd be hard to prove that you don't have it now. Once diagnosed, an absence of symptoms means remission. I suspect you'd struggle to get it undiagnosed.

I thought that UC had permanent damage to the colon? No abnormalities seems like it is now normal not remission. I'll figure out more but I'd love to dump thsee meds.

Yes, biopsies show permanent architectual changes with IBD cases even in a remission.

The GI doctor says that he also thinks I don't have UC. He suspects I had diverticular colitis. The biopsies are totally normal. We are dropping the canasa and the humira and reducing the 6 mp to 50mg for the next six months and see how I respond. I'm excited and very hopeful. It's such good news. Thank you all for the support especially Ipoop. I have appreciated you're insights. I'm hoping I will not be back. God Bless you all. I'll still pray for a cure.
