First post, can the GI doctor be wrong?

He said the biopsy is leading towards ibd but still wants more tests done.

It is possible it is IBD, or it's possible it's not. You do not have enough data to know for sure. It can come on quickly, one day fine, the next chronic illness. On the positive side, most people with UC live normal lives and take only very safe medication. Stay calm and get a diagnosis, or get treatment for whatever is causing the diarrhea and go on with your life. Don't worry.

Based on what you describe you have inflammation of the large intestine without a known cause. A quick onset is often more suggestive of an infectious cause rather than something chronic in nature. There's Colitis, which is an infectious cause, and a one-time course of medications clears it up and there's no worries going forward. There's C Diff which is another example of an infection.

Your gasteroenteroligist could be wrong to diagnose you before he/she has all of the needed test results. Any diagnosis requires multiple data points, you can't take just patient described symptoms and diagnose. Rather, you would also need a stool test result that was negative for pathogenic cause, a visual colonoscopy report, and a biopsy report results together to make an accurate diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis.

Prior to my diagnosis, blood in the toilet bowl was my biggest concern by far. I had a bright red toilet water after every bowel movement and that persisted for many weeks before I had the convinced myself it wasn't going away on it's own, and I better ask a doctor to look up there haha. Blood is a big calling card for Ulcerative Colitis and is often the thing that makes us seek out a diagnosis.

I had a sudden onset of symptoms which were immediately ameliorated with a 10 day course of Flagyl. The symptoms slowly crept back about four months after this initial experience. After this reappearance of symptoms, I was diagnosed with UC via sigmoidoscopy.

My UC diagnosis was about two years ago. During these two years I have had some positive C. diff results and have taken vanco and Dificid to treat this, though I continued to test positive for C. diff after taking these antibiotics. I had a FMT performed for the C. diff about a year ago and have not tested positive for C. diff since. However, I've continued to experience symptoms related to the active UC during this whole time period. None of the meds I've taken for the UC have helped me whatsoever. I'll probably ask for a course of Flagyl prior to resorting to surgery as a last ditch effort to save my colon if none of the alternative approaches I'm trying out now help.

Not sure if any of that helps, but I would say that yes, the GI doctor can definitely be wrong. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that he/she is wrong. I've heard a lot of people's UC is triggered during stressful periods and thus some people experience a really sudden onset of UC (as I did).

Stool tests aren't 100% accurate either. They are pretty accurate, but some tests tend to produce more false-positives while other test methods produce more false-negatives. Relay your questions to your doctor or ask around/ peruse online to get a second opinion if you want--might be a good idea.

Unfortunately, no one online can give you an unequivocal answer on whether or not you have UC. Your description of your symptoms reminds me of my experience--antibiotics resolved my symptoms, thought I just had an undetected infection, symptoms came back, diagnosed with UC. So it's possible you have/had an infection, but it's also very possible that you have UC. If your pathology report from your colonscopy reveals chronic inflammation of the rectum and/or large intestine, then I would presume that is a pretty solid indication of UC. Ask your doctor or consult with another doctor so you can find some answers to your very valid questions.
