Hi everyone! My son has an appt at CC to see a surgeon and hopefully a specialist. Does anyone have an opinion about any of the UC doctors/surgeons? Good experiences, bad, etc. Our local doc has determined that my son's condition is beyond his area of expertise so we're heading there on Wednesday. He also mentioned some new treatment at CC but I'm not sure what it's called since I wasn't at the appointment when he discussed this with my son. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I don't want to arrive at the appointment unprepared! My son and his wife have asked me to go along since I know all of his history and, since he was a teenager, he doesn't really remember specifics like mom? smile Thank you all!!!

Clevleand clinic is amazing. I see a GI and a surgeon once a year there to check in while I see other doctors locally on a regular basis. As far as surgery they have the only colorectal unit in the country that's dedicated solely to colon surgeries. The GI team is amazing. Wait time is short, testing is easy and thorough, and everyone I meet there is knowledgeable and friendly. They work heavily with their fellows so the only downside is having to repeat your story over and over to several different people...much like during a hospital stay.

I see dr achkar (GI) and dr ashburn (surgeon). CC is #2 nationally for GI so he is with the best. Dr Ashburn has a great bedside manner and she explains everything. She doesn't push surgery unless needed and doesn't rush me when I have a ton of questions
Dr achkar is in the top of the field. He's a bit more formal but checks every little detail.

I can't say enough good things about my visits there.

I echo KulinaryKidz's comments. I am alive today because of the colorectal surgery department at Cleveland Clinic. My surgeon was Dr. Huang, she was wonderful. While I know she is incredibly busy, she treats you like you are the only person she has to see that day. She has personally called me when I have questions even on Sunday and makes herself very accessible. I have an additional diagnosis of PSC since surgery and she has even helped me with that.

After surgery, the nurses and staff in the colorectal unit are fantastic.

I can't say enough good things about my experience there.

Thank you for your comforting words! We feel fortunate to live only 5 hours from CC so traveling there won't be too bad. We're just anxious to get something going...his quality of life isn't the greatest right now! I have peace about CC. Thank you!!
