Phosphatidylcholine used to be one of my favorite supplements for overall health and it did seem to help with my UC. Then all of a sudden it seemed to make things worse.

Please note that the studies you are referring occurred in Germany. Europe does not allow GMO crops saturated with Roundup (glyphosate). In the U.S. most phosphatidylcholine is derived from GMO soybeans. Glyphosate is associated with IBD among other things.

So perhaps that is why these PC studies are so effective in Europe and maybe that is why supplementing with PC was giving me problems. I dunno, just guessing. But at one time, before the FDA allowed higher amounts of Roundup on soybeans, it did seem to help.

There have been some posts about this in the past. We have had members who were ordering a delayed release version from Europe. Some had posted results.definitely interesting and something I'd like to find out more about. I hate that we have been talking about this for years and still very little has happened.

I was one of several on this forum that ordered some rx from Germany. I think all of us on this forum who tried it got no positive results at all-- in my case it caused me considerable oain and cramps, probably from the coating of the granules I am guessing, so I stopped it after a couple weeks. Interestingly the pubmed multicenter study's results are extremely weak compared to the earlier study results that were published, which had whoppingly high results. Seems to be so common when one goes from published study to practice. But i hope it helps someone.

Yes I thought the results did not seem that great,and the people had to stay on their meds,
they could not taper.
But as you can see making the mucus more resistant to penetration by bacteria,has an effect.
This is only once aspect of mucus strengthening,working basically on the surface.
But be that as it may, I still am wary of PC acting as an emulsifier and causing mucus problems.

Hi--I'm thinking of trying to use the phospatidylcholine as an enema... any thoughts on this? Good to know about the GMO issue too... thanks, deborah

Not sure if this was noted on another thread but I've just noticed that the latest trial began after Nestle and Dr Falk bought into the treatment was terminated early, can't find any page reporting why though, page just says:

This study has been terminated.
(IDMC recommendation)

However, the original doctor, still seems to be researching this area, this paper seems to be looking at the genetics of phosphatidylcholine transport
