are these accurate for diagnosing IBD

MRE scans are the best scans for IBDs tests. These are newer, expensive and most accurate but not available everywhere.

"Magnetic Resonance Enterography (MRE) is a special type of resonance imaging (MRI), performed using contrast material to produce detailed images of the small intestine and bowel."

It's usually use for CD patients or if there is uncertainty with UC patients. GIs like colonoscopies.

Thanks Keith. I had a CT scan which showed thickening which they say is inflammation.

thickening has is interpreted as inflammation, but it is less accurate about active vs scaring.

the MRE gets the vascular pattern by using contrast - but still cannot directly speak to active status - for that they use symptoms.

I had a CT scan that showed distal colitis but a scope showed mild proctitis. My doctor told me that CT scans were not reliable for UC. I had an MRE that showed very minimal inflammation so you can see the discrepancy.

The strange thing about it it showed no inflammation in the rectum where my disease originated. Only up higher where I've never had it. They said it was a bad flare and I admit I didn't feel great but I feel pretty good after being rehydrated. I ate a tim of red kidney beans which gave me direah

Why would you consider getting a CT scan for diagnosis? Endocoscopy is much, much more accurate for UC patients. Do you suspect lower intestinal involvement (that is crohn's disease) as that's usually when CT scans, of one form or another, are involved.

I went to emergency and they done a ct scan. Cause I had direah which I believe was triggered with food. Kidney beans. High resistance starch which caused my last flare. They found thickening in the descending colon which they say is inflammation. I've had proctitis for seven years. No inflammation mentioned in the rectum which I found weird..

The descending colon is your left-side of the large intestine. It could've been a generalization meaning the whole left side including the rectum *shrug*. But, yes, technically saying descending colon doesn't include the sigmoid colon or the rectum. A CT scan isn't nearly as accurate and is only going to pick up on moderate to severe inflammation. You could've had mild inflammation within the rectum *shrug*. There's only so much you can accurately ascertain from a CT scan and a lot of guesswork. Again, scopes are more precise.

Yep definitely didn't include rectum. The dr looked confused when I said I had proctitis.. I'm just wondering if the enemas are convering
The proctitis but not reaching high enough. When I started using the enemas I had 8cm inflammation in rectum and that has been my diagnosis the entire 8 years.

Had a stool test for an infection like C Diff?

No they didn't do that.. they only done a routine blood test.. Ive got hemmies I can feel them
