I am terrified that the stronger the drugs taken to calm the disease the stronger the likelihood over time they will stop working and surgery would be needed.
I've been on steroids for over a month now.. still frequent toliet visits.. waking up in the middle of the night to go.. still bleeding. hence why I had another colonoscopy which confirmed I now have pancolitis.
The doctors have given me the option to try aza. I just don't k ow whether it's the best option.
I think there are legitimate concerns about
the side effects, and the need for blood work to monitor liver and kidney health, or even fatigue or immune system issues. It s a question of benefit and risk, and it sounds like you need the benefits.
It has become more common to skip aza/6mp and go direct to biologics, and you might look into that.
Your fear that stronger drugs increases the likelihood they sill stop working is not a legitimate or logical fear. The fact that you need stronger drugs is a sign you disease course may be aggressive and that no drugs will work - but it is because of the disease and not because stronger drugs were used.
good luck
