Can I stop remicade infusions if I have been in remission for several years?

Yes, there's a big evil conspiracy where medications are only prescribed to enrich doctors and big pharmaceutical companies lol. Let us not go far down that rabbit hole. Amazing how predictable these threads are ::facepalm::

And why shouldn't we be concerned about doctor compensation when they prescribe expensive drugs? IMO everyone should look up their doctor in /projects.propublica.org/docdollars/ to see what compensation doctors are receiving and from whom.

Here are two recent examples in HW of people who were pushed towards expensive drugs by their doctors, even though they were doing quite well with less expensive meds.

My GI has been pushing remicade even at my last appointment where they told me I'm doing very well after a hospital stay and even scheduled my scope to confirm healing. So why still push remicade? Well, there's a database out there where you can search your doctor's name (s) to see which pharmaceutical companies they get money from, how much, and for what. Guess which company was the only company my GI got money from? Yup, the makers of remicade.

I left a message for the nurse asking for some rectal meds (again)...

I never posted about this before but my hesitation with going up the medication ladder has to do with a terrible experience with Imuran. It lowered my WBC (to almost non existant) and I caught a virus. 103 fever, uncontrollable D, and nausea, vomiting. I was hospitalized for 16 days, had 2 spinal taps, a scan/test of every major organ and they never did figure out what it was. I came off of Imuran and have been on Apriso and SF Rowasa ever since...

While he was out of town his partners would not prescribe me any more rectal meds. My choices were Predisone or Uceris. I ended up taking the Uceris. At my appt yesterday my GI didn't want to discuss other rectal medications and told me it should be fine to continue taking Uceris indefinitely, wrote me a prescription for a year and sent me on my way. He wasn't listening to my concerns AT ALL. So frustrating!!!...

Oh wow, he is receiving payments, guess which drug is on the top of the payment list...Uceris.
I made an appointment with a new GI for next week.

Outliers, doesn't imply it's the norm. It's the same issue with rare side effects, doesn't mean everyone gets them.

Uhh.. it's naive for me to believe that the majority of doctors are NOT motivated by the money of drug companies? That's very, very much a conspiracy theory lol. It's called the hippocratic oath and they all take it. I am sure there are a few bad apples, there are in any gigantic system but they hardly represent the normal.

I've had several good gasteroenteroligists all of which gave me the final decision on what path to take, they'd say here multiple choices of what I'd recommend which do you want to do? We'd discuss and the decision was ultimately mine to make. That's hardly a doctor who's motivated on selling me something lol. I ran my doctor through the link IAC gave and it came up with $25 donated to him over the span of years covered. There are a lot of good doctors out there who care about their patients and want the best outcome.

I checked my son's GI on that website. She was paid $135 over the time period covered (3 or 4 years I think). Not a fraction of enough to cause any type of conflict. It is a pretty cool site. Of course I have no idea how accurate it is.
