New patient to Cellulitis. Please help.

Hello everyone smile I'm all the way from South Africa and I really need help. I have kinda lost all hope. I have seen 3 doctor's and they have all confirmed that I have cellulitis of the toes, I believe it was from a spider bite. I have been put on a course of oral antibiotics and now that I'm nearing the end of the course I have seen very little improvement as if it's now going backwards. My baby toe has started turning yellow and I have no feeling in it anymore and at the bottom of my toes it has started to turn yellow also as if it's calloused. It is becoming very difficult to walk and now I just limp on my heel. At night my "infected areas" become excruciatingly itchy but when rubbed it burns.

Has anyone gone through the same thing?

Are you taking UC RX meds? I got cellulitis in my finger while I was on 6mp and in my opinion that med allowed the infection to be worse than it would normally be. Some very strong anti-inflammatories keep wounds from healing.

You need to see a doctor and get a stronger antibiotic if the one you took is not curing you.
Possibly stop taking your UC meds temporarily unless your UC condition is very bad too.

I'm on a 1000mg antibiotic called Augmentin. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic made from penicillin. I am also on anti-inflammatories and pain meds.

I plan to go back to the hospital tomorrow, but since I've never had this before I don't want to go into the hospital looking like a fool because I'm over exagurating.

Yes go back to the hospital and tell them your story. If you haven't gotten improvement by now something else needs to be done.

I cannot remember what antibiotic I was given. Of course it happened on a weekend as we were going out of town for a week so had to go to what we have in the US called Urgent Care Walk-in Clinics. This is less expensive than going to the Emergency Center at a Hospital but the quality of care is not as good in my opinion. My infected finger cleared up with one course of antibiotic, but it was not a spider bite it was just a skin puncture from gardening that got infected and didn't heal.

I'm just super worried about these yellow patches...they don't look kosher. Especially my baby toe that has no feeling anymore. It all started with that baby toe come to think of it. I've read in other forums that cellulitis is quite a stubborn infection and one can get it continuously....i hope that's not true, I can't bare it now.

Health care in a hospital on weekends is shocking even here.

Lala, I have a lot of experience with cellulits infections & have had countless admissions to the hospital. Mine were always on my legs. These infections can turn into staph very quickly & this is why in patient care is needed for the stronger IV antibiotics. I have had wounded care both in & out patient.

I hope you will get some help.

So back from the hospital. Apparently my toes and hands need an antibiotic course of 10days so I received more antibiotics. The doctor says I shouldn't worry so much. A yellow toe that is numb is apparently normal due to swelling.

So yay more meds *sarcasm*
