Lost my battle with UC, lost my career in the military

Hey guys, so its been quite a battle over the last 4+ years as I was diagnosed with UC, ended up having an emergency surgery to have my colon removed. Had an ileostomy for a year and now a little over a year out since my takedown surgery, am facing a release from the military. Having said that, I am now starting a homestead. I have bought 70 acres of land on the east coast of Canada where I am from and plan on setting up a maple sugar shack among other things. Here is a video giving a quick overview of my journey. I will also be sharing my entire journey on YouTube as well. I am also very willing to talk with anybody dealing with UC one to one as I can obviously relate.

Sounds like you're doing fairly well on the whole. Sometimes life gives us a major detour in order to put us into the kind of living that would be better for us. Not always, but... you know... if you're lucky. And it seems like you might be lucky, in a roundabout way

To me, you've only lost your battle with UC if you're dead.

I would say that I lost my battle with life if I was dead. I figure the UC won by getting the colon out of me ;)

You are living the dream of many people with 70 acres in Canada. I've travelled maritime Canada in a van and seen how beautiful it is and people are very nice. Funny bit I heard: "Of course we have healthy greens here in Canada, there's that tomato slice on your plate" haha. Had poutine (did not like it).

And because I love potatoes we visited the Potato Museum on Prince Edward Island. They make great french fries in the cafe. Maple syrup sounds better as a crop, less chemicals needed (maybe none ?)

Looks like you are off to a great start of a new life.

Sometimes simplifying our lives is" just what the doctor ordered" with crohnic illness, and can bring down our stress and anxiety levels. I bet you'll love it! I live in the heart of maple sugaring and farming country with Vermont in the USA and it doesn't get much better, more beautiful, or relaxed! I'm sure Alberta is the same! I'd like to get into sugaring myself and have the maples and land (although I'm a bit envious of 67 acres). Good luck

It is a lot of fun, I did it in the past on a smaller scale as well and loved it.
