Apriso Side Effects

I've just started taking Apriso and the side effects to me are brutal! Nobody else seems to be talking about this, could it just be me or is everyone else more stoic?

I've got:

Fever - as high as 102.9
Flu symptoms
Vomiting
Incredible fatigue - this is the worst, I can't even stay awake at my desk and have to go to bed right when I get home
Headaches
Nausea

I could put up with it all but the fatigue and fever. Does it get better? Is this just an intro to the drug and then my body will adjust?

Would appreciate hearing about your experience starting Apriso.

This is my first week and no. I haven't contacted my doctor because they are listed as less serious side effects, but wow these are rough.

(Also I'm leaving Dr. Quack for a new doctor but haven't transitioned yet so am a little reticent to call).

Thanks Quincy - just based on my body's reaction I'd have to agree I just didn't want to be the stupid new guy that did the wrong thing.

I didn't even mention the D. It got significantly worse with Apriso, which I'm sure is contributing to the fatigue. To be honest, the last two days I started taking Immodium and it worked like a charm.

I have an appointment already set up with Dr. New for Nov 28, and already mentioned a stool test, so am hoping for a better outcome.

Thanks I saw that as well, which prompted me to read the packaging. It actually breaks out side effects into less serious and serious-call-your-doctor and none of the side effects I have are listed as serious. It doesn't speak to degrees, however.

Nevertheless, I've called Dr. Quack for confirmation. Might as well be safe.

Definitely contact your doctor and update him/her. I'd try skipping the Apriso for a day or two and see if you improve. Apriso is 90% topical and should be cleared from your system in 24 hours or so. If you do get better than Apriso is to blame. If you do not get better than you have something else going in. It's hard sometimes to tell. As the symptoms you mention can also be UC flare symptoms without any medication. With flares we can have fever temperatures, nausea and vomit (like pooping too much isn't enough, we can have to purge from both ends), we can have headaches, and we can have a lot of fatigue as well.

The real question is does it remain the same without apriso or improve? Try and see.

And we can get the flu as well...

That's how I felt on asacol hd. It was bizarre and scary. It stopped after I ceased the med. I was fine in lialda. However now I seem to be intolerant to mesalamine meds.

Hopefully you hear back from dr quack even if to just get a new medication until you see your new gi.

Day 2 off Apriso: nearly “normal”. I’m whipped from the 96 hours of chaos in my body, but no Apriso side effects today. I’m going to call Dr. New on Monday and see if I can move up my appoinment.
