I've started to eat steamed cruciferous vegetables about
the same time I learned about
my MTHFR mutation result. I eat it every day (it's easy to prepare and cook) to get the folate and other micro nutrients from these veggies. In the first post I said I don't experience any negative effects from the methylfolate; but I think I might be getting headaches (migraines) from it. I will probably stop taking it and keep getting my daily folate from these vegetables.
If you steam them nice and chew them more, it might be easier on your gut. As a bonus, steaming preserves the micro-nutrients of these veggies better than other methods of cooking.(1)
As for vitamin A, I've read on paleo websites(2) that animal based vitamin A (retinol) is much more bioavailable than beta carotene. Don't know much about
it, but might be worth investigating.
