I've always hated waiting. I was in a really long flare up (18 mo), and I had hit the point where I had run out of medical options. Waiting for the "next" thing drove me nuts - At a certain point, I didn't have the time or energy to wait for trials & hope for a miracle that wasn't going to happen. I wanted my life back.
I am surprised your doctor left you to fend with dietary suggestions and no rx for so long. Seems irresponsible. I know some people have luck with diet, but from what I've seen, it's not the majority by far, especially in the case of severe inflammation like you're dealing with.
How long have you been on Remicade now?
Have you tried steroids?
Have you had any repeat stool tests?
Have you tried any antibiotics since your initial bout of giardia?
How about trying something more similar to Remicade? Humira or Simponi and more easily available & I don't think trying another antiTNF would be a bad idea before abandoning. Also, you should have really tried some of the more mild 5ASAs. You definitely need to give yourself some time with each medication. I know it's silly to say that when you've already waited so long, but it seems like your old doctor was useless and wasted a lot of your time. With all these meds, it does take time, but I think with Remicade, within the first few months you should have improvement if you're going to. Same for Entyvio.
I never had improvement with any of the biologics personally. I had surgery and I didn't have some awful complication, I am now free of UC and I live like I am healthy. No drugs. No doctors. I am sure something will work for you, but in the case of surgery, it can work out. I had 3 steps, it spanned 6 months and then there was adjustment time, but I love it, my life has drastically improved.
Can you go to an IBD center vs a regular GI?
