can oral steroid deal with every inflammation?

My pulmonologist recently gave me an oral steroid just in case I had severe allergic reaction from foods (I've been allergic all my life). Since I had inflammation issues not only on my colon but my gum, tonsil, etc., I want to ask, can oral steroid deal with every inflammation we have currently? I asked my doc once about inhaled steroid, he said it couldn't help my tonsillitis since it only targeted my lungs. What about oral steroid, then? Would it ease any inflammation in my body? Thanks so much for your help. Appreciate it.

It should deal with inflammation in the body and in your throat, but it won't deal with the infection in your tonsils.

What dosage are you on, and are you also on anribiotics?

Thanks so much. I'm not using it yet, as my doc said it was only for emergency cases such as severe allergy as I said. I'm not on any antibiotic. I was just asking so that I can get a better picture on this and also if someday I discuss this topic further with my doc. I had corticosteroid injection in the ER when I was having allergic reaction. So this drug indeed works against inflammation, doesn't it? Thank you for all your help, quincy, appreciate it.

Topical steroids treat specific areas of the body, like an asthma inhaler, steroid-cream, or steroid-enema. Those topical steroids are 90 percent topical and 10 percent systematic, so they might slightly help other areas of the body.

If you're talking an oral, 100% systematic steroid like prednisone, then yes it will suppress inflammation throughout your body. While taking pred for UC, your pre-existing arthritis (joint inflammation) will feel better, as would other inflamed areas of your body.

Just adding: I was having daily headaches and my neurologist put me on steroids for a week. My headaches did go away, but returned when I quit the pred. Turned out a allergy decongestant helped. But there must have been inflammation in my sinuses, which is why the pred worked, I think.

I see. Yeah it is good when you finally found the cause for your headache and fixed it.
