Welcome to the forum! Are they suspecting infectious-proctitis or an Ulcerative Proctitis? Those are similar sounding but very different in prognosis. Infectious proctitis can be cleared up with one course of meds and is never a problem again, gong forward. If you have Ulcerative Proctitis then it is a lifelong illness with periods of flares and remissions, requiring maintenance medications for life.
We can sometimes use anti-diarrhea mess like loperamide or Imodium in moderation, but never in excess! I'd ask your doctor just to play it safe, as we're not doctors here.
In the interim, eat a low fiber diet as fiber is abrasive and bulking, and proctitis inflammation narrows the inside diameter of the rectum and leaves it raw and bleeding (fiber and that should never meet!). I'd eat well cooked, bland foods. General flare-safe foods for UC are soups, broths, chicken, and potatoes without any significant seasoning/spices. Raw foods are much harder to digest than cooked ones are (and contain a lot of fiber), so avoid them. Make sure to stay hydrated, as frequent diarrhea is good at dehydrating us! Caffeine can stimulate bowel movements in some of us, and if that is you, then skip it. Alcohol and spicy pepper oils are digestive tract irritants that can cause additional inflammation, so I would avoid them until you heal.
A heat-retaining-pad or hot water bottle is great for temporary relief of gut aches. Avoid NSAID pain relievers (Aspirin, Bayer, Aleve, etc) and stick only with Tylenol (which isn't a NSAID). As NSAIDs can worsen our IBD symptoms.
