Surgery Monday .. any helpful thoughts to get me through this

I felt so much better after I woke up from surgery, I felt healthy again and not like I was being poisoned from my insides. I was a little sore but it wasn’t nearly as much pain as I expected.

So I have the dreaded chronic pouchitis that everyone fears about surgery, about 7% get it. I can tell you that it’s not nearly as bad as living with UC. I have to treat it but it responds much better to meds than my UC ever did.


I like my jpouch even with its issues.

I'm calling my surgeon in morning to see if we can do it this week or next instead of Jan. Not sure if being on 50 mg of Pred til January is good idea. Every day has different struggles. Hope for best

Well I had the surgery all went well the surgeon said , the next step in a few months is the J pouch
After surgery the pain was very intense I guess pain meds can only do so much 😬. My doctor had me walking around the next morning which to me was a killer . Thankful to my older kids that have spent the night here at the hospital to get me up and going . Have to be truthfully the bag sort of freaks me out .. seeing your own BM in a bag may take some getting used to. By tomorrow they want me up 15 times. Today they wanted 10 but I only did the walk 6 times plus multiple bathroom trips and all that was extremely difficult. Hoping tomorrow will be a bit easier 🙏

Thanks for the update. The bag definitely takes some time to get used to, but for you, it's temporary. Once you're used to it, it will be in the past. It sounds like you have great support, and you're up and moving, that's wonderful. You will be out of there soon. Do you have a home health nurse to help out a few times when you get home? Did you order any sample supplies? I tried everything I could. Staying hydrated with the loop ileo is the biggest challenge. I was using drops in my water. I think it's called "lyteshow".

Glad to hear you are on the mend! It sounded like you were pretty darn sick at the end there.

We are pulling for you and I hope you are able to spend some time with your family during the holidays. Sounds like you are blessed to have people caring for you.

Update all is well . Getting used to the bag did it for the first time today and you quickly learn what to do and not do. Still suffering with the pain around the sites which at times feels like a blow torch ( sorry it hurts ) but I am now getting pain meds every 3 hours.
Heading home Sunday or Monday after being in the hospital for nearly a month now first 27 days trying to cure my colitis with meds and the last 3 days after surgery.

Hey great to hear from you.Taking in a lot of what your going thru.Going to see my Stoma girl[nurse?] on the 28th,surgery on the 2nd.I have the mindset that i don't care what i go thru after surgery,of course it will be an adjustment but anything to improve quality of life usually is.So i guess if i have surgery on 2nd ill be going home 4-5-6 days???

I hope you are feeling better. We are about the same age and I can identify with the urgency and not making it to a toilet and seeing just blood But now all that’s behind you my prayers are with you during you recovery.
