Champ - You're right; I think the sicker we are when we go into the surgery, the harder it is because we have two things to recover from: the sickness of the UC flare and then also the surgery. But sometimes the most dramatic happy news stories we've heard are from these folks, because they gain so much QOL!
The way I see it, recovery will be what it will be. I told my work I would be MIA and could not guess at when they would see me. (I suspect I'll be working from home a few weeks before my next surgery, if indeed surgery #2 is 6 weeks after the first.)
I echo - don't figure you'll be doing work from the hospital. I didn't "feel" loopy, but I picked up a crossword puzzle and couldn't make sense of it, and also had trouble reading the time on the clock in the room!
That kind of mental capacity wouldn't help your professional life.....
