Just got my biopsy results i have cryptitis and crypto abscess with chronic and acute inflamation in my rectum and sigmoidcolon and been refered back to the gi hope i get appointment soon to get on some meds is this just normal for uc

The surface of the large intestine is like waves on a pond, with high peaks and low valleys. The valleys are known as crypts in medical jargon. Crypts are of particular interest in UC diagnoses. You have inflammation of the crypt (cryptitis). Your crypts are filled with junk that doesn't belong there ( crypt abscesses), which are often filled with immune cells like WBC. Both of those findings are typical of a UC patient.

The inflammation found was only acute (acute means not-crohnic)? No crohnic? For an IBD diagnosis like UC, they need to find permanent architectual changes to your cells and it would say "crohnic".

If it was a UC then it would be proctosigmoiditis, like mine.

if there was chronic and acute inflammation, it sounds like IBD and a current flare.

when I 1st got sick, I was referred to a GI for a scoping (although my doc said he sometimes did more routine cases himself). The GI said it looked like UC, and the pathology report later confirmed visual diagnosis.

I was confused on whether the Gi was just for the diagnosis, or would also treat. I am impatient so I made a few calls and asked about followup. Appointment was offered several weeks later - and I said "what do I do in meantime?" - A script for Asacol was phoned in. After my appointment, it got changed to Lialda, which worked slowly, but well, for me.

Im in a flaire 6 to 10 bm a day with urgency blood and mucus almost 3 months since gp referal and had it a long time before that silly me wouldnt see doctor i can deal with pain just want to feel better hope he can give me something other than more tests
