I get stomach pains and continual discomfort many times as a first symptom when flaring, but I will also have nausea, stool changes soon afterward.
I start retention enemas after a few days if it's continual.
I do have Primary biliary cholangitis, and have been super nauseated with upper esophageal, cold burning feeling discomfort, over the past 2 weeks, and have started the enemas nightly for a week...wih no huge improvement. I'm concluding it's not flare related, yet the nausea is felt in the rectum... if that makes sense.
I also added Zantac in the morning in addition to my nightly dose. Some of the discomfort has improved, but not the nausea as much.
I see my hepatologist tomorrow and hopefully she'll have some answers for me. If not, I'll have to see my gastro doc.
Well, probably too much info.....so, to answer your question, ask the doc for mesalamine retention enemas.
