Ulcerative Colitis induced by Accutane (isotretinoin) now cured by simple diet!!!

I have Ulcerative Colitis - a 6-month long Ulcerative Colitis induced by the side effects of an acne medication (Accutane / Isotretinoin).Fortunately, I stumbled upon a cure, and I'm now in remission, and I hope (and know!) that this cure can and will help MANY of you, so you can have your life back!

Background medical history:

about 1 year ago (Feb 2017), I was put on a 6-month plan of this prescription medication named Isotretinoin for acne. A few weeks after that, I started to experience gastrointestinal problems (e.g. watery stool, hemorrhoid, and sometimes bloody stool). I stopped taking the medication and started eating yogurt and drinking probiotics, and within 2-3 days, the stool no longer had blood. I took a break from the meds, and resumed it after a few weeks, and just cycled on and off every 2 weeks.

Then around in July of last year (5 months in), I began having severe symptoms like I had before. At this point, I quit the Accutane completely. I also resumed the yogurt and probiotics. Everything seemed to have been back normal again after a week, except for a mild case of chronic hemorrhoid.

Recurrence of Colitis symptoms:

Approximately two weeks ago, all the symptoms, including DAILY bloody stool and rectal bleeding, came back without a clear cause. However, this time, the symptoms did not improve at all with probiotics. After two weeks, I was faced with a dilemma:

1) Seek conventional treatment that would involve the use of more synthetic medications, such as corticosteroids that just suppresses the symptoms and the immune system, that make the body even more susceptible to infection (the very cause of colitis in the first place!)

or 2) Seek a treatment that involves the use of natural medicine.

THE SEARCH FOR A NATURAL REMEDY AND THE CURE!!:

I started doing tons of research, and tried everything from turmeric to omega-3 (fish / flax seed oil), and combined everything with a daily eating of up to 64 oz of yogurt for the probiotics (!) but NOTHING WORKED!

Fortunately, I came across a research article on Nigella sativa (black cumin seed) oil and its ability to inhibit the growth of Closstridium difficile (the bacteria that causes colitis!) and other pathogenic microbes and viruses. This gave me the confidence to give this oil a try.

My simple Black Cumin oil protocol:

I started with 2 teaspoons of Nigella sativa oil (100% pure) at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and before bed. To my amazement, within just two days (!!!), my stool is no longer as bloody and the rectal bleeding is nearly gone!

So to the folks reading this... if all of the conventional treatments are not helping and you don't see much improvements, TRY Black Cumin seed oil!

This oil has been used in food in the Mediterranean, Middle East, India, and South Asia for centuries, and it is VERY safe!!!

You can still continue your conventional treatments, but you should start incorporating this Cumin seed oil into your diet. It's an oil that you can add to your salad, bread, or any other food. Add 2 teaspoons to your breakfast, lunch, dinner, and take 2 more teaspoons before bed.

I need to repeat this again: I was having heavy rectal bleeding and bloody stool EVERY DAY for 2 weeks straight, and as soon as I started taking Cumin seed oil, the bleeding is nearly gone!!! In just 2 days!!!

Where to buy Black Cumin seed oil:

Cumin seed oil is easy to get. I got mine on ebay, 2 fl oz (60ml) for $6.99, but you can buy it in Indian and Middle Eastern markets.

I suggest you go to an Indian market and look for this oil (ask for Kalonji oil) or if go to a Middle Eastern market, ask for "black cumin seed oil" or "Habbat ul Sawda" oil (the Arabic name that it is known by).

Within 2-3 days, you will see a difference! But don't stop taking the oil. Keep it in your diet, so that the problem is gone for good. In addition, this oil has numerous other health benefits (Google), so keep eating it!

You can try calling your local health shops and ask if they have it. If you're in the US, Mother's market might have it (but I'm not 100% sure). Price might be expensive, though.

Vitaminshoppe sells an 8 fl oz (236ml) bottle for $23.99... WAY too expensive in my opinion. I do NOT recommend buying it here, unless money is not an issue for you.

You can get it on ebay. I got mine on ebay.
The best price for an 8 fl oz (236ml) bottle is $14.99. I just realized this is even cheaper than local Indian markets. Should last about 2 weeks if taking 2 teaspoons, 4 times a day.

Another option is to go directly to local Indian or Middle Eastern markets / grocery stores. I got 2 bottles (6.7 fl oz / 200ml) for $15.99 yesterday at a local Indian grocery store here in Southern California.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to answer your second question about proctitis... YES! It definitely does! This is why my rectal bleeding is nearly gone!

In the past, every time I had a bowel movement, my rectum would protrude to about 1/3 the size of a golf ball and would stayed like that for hours. I used to push it back inside, thinking it would help keep the swelling down, but then I realized that this causes the blood to go inside the rectal cavity, which is food for the pathogenic bacteria that is causing the inflammation!

So, if you have swelling in that area, DO NOT push it back in! Just leave it out and put clean tissues, gauze pads, or whatever you need to keep it dry until the bleeding stop. Then clean it and let it go back in by itself. This way, you minimize the blood from getting into the rectal cavity and minimize the growth of these bacteria.

My brother in law really pushed black seed oil on me when I first flared. I finally caved and tried in when other methods weren't working. For most of us, the first major flare is the scariest because we just don't know what to do to help ourselves. For me, black seed oil did absolutely nothing. I tried it in food and on its own. A year later when I flared a second time, I tried it again. Still nothing.

I remember reading at the time that a table spoon in the morning and a tablespoon at night was standard, but I don't believe in standard protocols. You should do what works for you. If your UC is due to some kind of dysbiosis, that dose could cause a major herx reaction so you may want to start with less.

I would also start by just adding it to food. Oils are better handled by the body that way. Then you can see your reactions and decide later if you want to move on to full dose oil on its own.

How many stable spoons per day did you start with, and what was the most you ever took per day?

Were you diagnosed by a medical professional with UC or are you self-diagnosing? That's an incredibly important distinction to make.. I ask, because severe diarrhea and rectal bleeding are side effects (though rare ones) of accutane, and that stuff wreaks havoc on your system. Your more recent episode could be a variety of things as well.

Prior to the Accutane, I was on antibiotics and had colitis that was diagnosed by my primary care provider. Because it was caught early and I came off of the antibiotics right away, the problem went away on its own.

When I was on Accutane, as the symptoms started, I came off of it right away but got back on it and stayed on it for 5 months. Then, the symptoms came back, and I stopped the Accutane completely. The symptoms went away after that, but I did not bother to go through a formal diagnosis, because I already knew I would be put on immunosuppressive meds that only mask the symptoms (and make myself more susceptible to infection) rather than treat the underlying problems.

Accutane can induce colitis, among other side effects such as high cholesterol (which I also developed after being on it).

Some types of colitis are temporary, such as those induced by medications, while UC is an autoimmune disease with particular characteristics that can only be seen with a biopsy. Did you get a scope and biopsy?

Basically, since your first post on the forum is "I have a cure!" I think it's important that you provide an accurate depiction of your diagnoses.

Please let me clarify a few things:

First, Ulcerative Colitis (UC) has many causes. Autoimmune is one of the causes, but it is NOT the only cause.

Bacterial infection causes UC.

Harvard University: Bacteria identified that may lead to inflammatory bowel disease in genetically susceptible individuals

Second, I did made it very clear that my UC was induced by the side effects of the medication(s) I took.

Third, in my case, the UC is/was NOT temporary after I was on the Accutane for 5 months. It gave me a chronic hemorrhoid and the bleeding came back after more than 6 months of discontinuation of this drug.

A chronic hemorrhoid is not UC.

After reading OP's threads a couple times, was put on antibiotics & had diarrhea & hemorrhoids. Dr took off antibiotics said you have colitis, started drinking probiotics & eating yogurt. This cleared everything up. Started acne medication things returned so stopped it & added the above supplements he mentioned & now the colitis is gone.

There has been no diagnostics of any kind done nor does it appear this person has seen a gastro, being treated by a GP. Sounds like the culprit was the antibiotics causing colitis which is not UC.

when was your last c-scope and what were the results ?

I was diagnosed with Colitis after I was on antibiotics. When I was on Accutane for acne, UC symptoms and problems surfaced, but I did not go in for a formal diagnosis for the reasons I mentioned in my previous reply to suchatravesty.

Chronic hemorrhoid is one of the many associated symptoms of UC. In addition to the chronic hemorrhoid, I also had the following:

* Mid to lower abdominal bloating and internal irritation
* Yellow puss in stool (in the beginning)
* Dark brown stool that progressively became black stool
* Bloody diarrhea
* Regular solid stool with blood on a daily basis
* Bowel movement went from once a day that progressively increased to several times a day, with heavy bleeding, and the stool contain red fresh blood as well as coagulated brownish black blood globules.

I didn't, for the reasons I mentioned. However, I was diagnosed with Colitis prior. Please see my post to suchatravesty.

Colitis is not the same as Ulcerative Colitis. A bout of colitis can be cured with treatment. UC is chronic. You need a scope with biopsies & pathology in order to say you have UC, symptoms alone can not diagnose IBD.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better Storm Rider. I hope you're cured. But, UC can go into remission for long periods of time and then suddenly flare again. I had 8 years of varying degrees of flaring followed by long sometimes over a year periods of remission before having the never ending flare from hell. Calling anything a cure without a long period of time going by may be premature. Again, I hope that you're cured and wish you the best.
