I have had pancolitis in the past. I was on Remicade which caused major lupus like side effects so I quit Remicade and decided to try natural. As I came off of the Remicade I began to flare again, it was a minor flare, I think, but there was diarrhea which I think means it was pancolitis, however it was minor because I was only going a few times a day.
I am having success and am so excited! This is what I'm doing.
Broth! Or anything with Glycine / Gelatin helps restore intestinal mucous which is a protection against the sulfur and immune system.
We produce too much Sulfur, (sorry but I would not recommend alcohol) we need to reduce sulfur as much as possible. Increase Fiber! Fiber helps our body produce Butyrate which detoxifies sulfur. :o)
Go easy on the gut! Gut healing foods only will help it heal. Lots of water, Turmeric, yogurt or probiotics are very good, cooked greens/veggies, bananas, rice, salmon, are some of the things I've been eating, small amounts with lots of rest.
The meds are TNF blockers. There are TNF blockers in our food as well. The combination of consuming TNF blockers / Anti-inflammatory foods, taking fiber (not too much for example it recommends 2-6 a day so I take 2 natural fiber capsules a day and increase slowly if needed) and lots of water with some salt like a sports drink (gatorade) that will help the intestine retain the water.
It worked! Monday I had diarrhea..by Wednesay I had a solid bowel movement with blood....today I had the most beautiful poo I've ever seen! :oD
Everyone is different. You have to listen to your own body. Increase or decrease add or take away if your body doesn't like it. I had healed my gut before but Monday was a setback but I'm happy to say I was able to heal it again. So don't get discouraged definitely mange the stress, stay calm and give it a try! It doesn't hurt to try. I'm so glad I did.
I'm not saying I'll never be on meds again because it's important to acknowledge we have a chronic illness but I agree that there are triggers and if we can figure out what our triggers are we may be able to manage the symptoms at times without meds.
I wish you the best! Keep us posted :o)
