2 days ago been taken off predifoam 20mg twice a day by GP also on 2 mezavant xl 1200m once a day my flare had dampened down a little to 5bm a day and little mucus and no blood but still urgency 2 days later im going back to more bm more mucus more cramps only the blood hasn't come back is this normal as ive just been diagnosed with uc so tired and my joints hurt how long do most people stay on the predifoam as i was on it for 2 weeks.

Request mesalamine retention enemas.

You sound under-treated. Yes, try mesalamine retention enemas as those can be used long-term.

Are they foam enemas coz gastro said i could only have foam i have problem with my sphincter as well i will ask i go for another colonoscopy on the 6th and hes doing it himself. The gp just read his letter didnt think she knew much about it other than you cant stay on steroid meds for long

Request for your GP to refer you to a GI who actually knows about UC.

Its the gp that s the problem the gi had said to double the tablets but because i was a little better she didt want to just stick to his letter as if she didt want to make a decision

Ok...I totally misunderstand how the GP can negate a GI's prescription of meds?
Why are you seeing the GP regarding that matter?

If you live in the UK, Australia and a few other places, mesalamine foam is available (I think under the name salofalk, asacol or mesalofoam).

I do believe that studies have shown mesalamine rectals to be as effective as steroid rectals, with few if any side effects for most people.

The gi gives general instructions for the gp if he thinks you are deteriating she then ask advice or send you for an extra appointment from the gi

For a UC flareup, the recommended dosage is 4.0 to 4.8 grams oral mesalamine, and 4.0 grams rectal-route retention enema. You can try mesalamine foams instead of retention-enemas, if they are available in your country, which should work just as good.

I would push for those recommended flare dosages. Keep after him/her. Best to heal fast.
