I have been diagnosed with UC for 7 years. I had 2 colonoscopies, had 2 GI's that pushed a bunch of medication on me - I tried Lialda, Prednisone, Melamine, Asacol, Balsalazide and Colozal with no real success. So a friend told me about a doctor that put him on a diet for 6 weeks to re-boot the good bacteria in his stomach and he said it worked. So I tried it and it worked! It was more like a 10 week diet and the diet was brutal! When I saw the list of foods I couldn't eat I didn't think I could do it. But I pre made all my food and stuck to the diet. The doctor provided supplements and it was a little costly. Total with supplements around $500 bucks. But to never take another prednisone pill and to eat anything I want, it was totally worth it. I would look into this is you are completely frustrated with your situation as I was on my last nerve with this disease. I only saw the doctor twice, once for the blood test (They took a lot of blood!) and a 2nd time for my diagnosis and for my diet plan and supplements. I had to get more supplements half way through but I did not see the doctor again. I am fully cured. I no longer see any blood in my stool and all of my stools are solidly formed and completely normal again. No more 20 bowel movements in a day and worrying about having to run to the bathroom if my stomach gurgled. I have been so healthy that I totally forgot about this site and all of the problems I had until I found a huge bottle of prednisone in my travel bag that I would keep with me when I had to travel just in case. I know how this sounds, I was totally skeptical when my friend recommended this treatment to me, so much so after I started this treatment, I order more prednisone waiting for this treatment to fail. But it's been months and I eat things i would have never even thought about eating with UC just to push it to see if my stomach would fail and it came through with flying colors. I don't want to solicit for any specific doctor so this doesn't look like some creep putting an add on this site for his buddy who's a doctor but my doctor was a Naturopathic doctor and he wasn't even the same guy my buddy went to. So this can't be some rare treatment. I remember reading about peoples problems on this site and it made me feel for all the people with this disease, that I would be A-Hole if I didn't at least try give a little back to other that may find this information helpful. Seriously, I am fully cured. I hope this can help even a few of you so we can get rid of this ridiculous notion that taking these f-in pills for the rest of your life with only marginal success is a way to treat this wicked disease. I don't know how to add a picture to this post or I'd post the images of the supplements, I still have the empty bottles and the PDF of the diet I was on. Sorry I don't blog much. If you can tell me how to do that I will post everything I have.

As for Quincy - I was totally skeptical too. I tried everything from tapioca flower to Indian Gooseberries nothing worked. But now I don't take any medication of any kind and if I'm only in remission or cured, this feels different then previous remissions in which I knew was only a short relief but would eventually come back.

The way the diet was explained to me is - It take 6 to 10 weeks on this diet to clear your stomach of bad bacteria. (More like 10 weeks!) and using supplements. People with this problem have too much bad bacteria in their stomach and may for a while may be able to swing the balance back to good but with all the sugar and byproducts in foods today your stomach cannot maintain a healthy balance for very long. Then you have a flair. But if you go on this diet it removes most the bad bacteria from your stomach and you can now maintain a large amount of good bacteria to keep your stomach healthy even when eating poorly like normal people do. (They said to take a probiotic afterwards but I was already doing that.) I tested it by eating a lot of sugar and meat and things that I know would have immediately put me in to a bad flair but my stomach didn't budge. Normal bowel movements with fully digested food. This is different than my usual short lived remissions. And if it did come back I'd go on the diet again because it worked for me. I'm not selling anything. I'm only promoting something that worked for me. I found my doctor on Yelp. He had great reviews, was a USC graduate and followed a similar plan that worked for my friend. But people have to do the work. Look up Naturopaths in your area because the current system that GI's use simply isn't working.

Everyone wants a simple solution to cure their problem. Just take a pill and this will solve the problem. Well just keep choking down those prednisone pills till your kidneys give out or suck down that Asacol 3 time a day for the rest of your life. I wonder what taking all that medication every day will do to you in the future? Sorry, that wasn't for me. This diet is hard, and there is one really bad part of the diet that I forgot to mention. Without sugar or any carbs of any kind, you will get what they call the carb flu. I had never heard about it before and when it hit me I thought I had a virus because I was so weak. I tried playing hockey and I almost blacked out on the rink. But after a week or two your body goes into Ketosis and you will burn fat for energy instead of carbs and you will lose a lot of weight and a lot of fat!

I'm 50 years old, I've only had UC for 6 years and that was 6 years too long! If it helps one person, it was worth it to me. Good Luck!

so essentially it was no carbs, no sugars and a probiotic? Can you name the other supplements? My friend sees a naturopath doctor but she does not have IBD. Her special diet is no carbs, sugars, grains etc and lots of supplements. Then she feels a lot better. I wish there was a magic cure because you are right the GI docs don't have all the answers and the drugs are harsh and they don't always work.

As was mentioned countless times on here, you gotta be careful with the 'c' word.
Call it 100% remission maybe?
Could you give us a little more info other than 'a nuturapath cured me?'
I'd love to here about your specific diet as well as the supplements you took?
Also where was your UC and how bad were your symptoms?

Again. Sorry I don't blog much. I don't know how to post images to this site. I tried to post the image of the supplements from used bottles on my sink but it didn't work. But here are sites that have images of the supplements, I got from the names on the bottles. I did not buy them from these sites I got them directly from the doctor. There was one more that I used that was directly from the doctor and had the doctors name on it but I could not find it on any site. Ps. Directly from my paperwork it says I was given 46 different chemical and clinical test. The purpose of these test are to determine in just what ways your body's metabolism is out of balance, as well as what food and what supplements will harm you. I was diagnosed with Parasympathetic Imbalances. What ever that means. I was seen by 2 Gastroenterologist and had 2 colonoscopies which both diagnosed me with Ulcerative Colitis. Just for those who will say I never really had UC.

Also, Countess18 - No it wasn't simply no carbs and sugar. Just that what causes Ketosis which many people are familiar with. It's a long list a lot of things that really wasn't clear to me why. I just followed it. Again if someone could tell me how to post a PDF, I be more than happy to post it.

Yissurim - you are right. Using the "C" word should not be used lightly. Previously I have thought things were going well only to have this thing come back with a vengeance. But honestly this does feel different and I have never been this long without some sort of gas, bloating or something before blood and diarrhea would eventually begin to show up. As I stated previously, I pushed my stomach just to see if I could get it to flair and I couldn't.

See my post about the supplement and I will try to find a way to post the .pdf of the diet. As for my GI's, one was in Burbank CA and was very well reviewed, beautiful office and very expensive. The other one was through Kaiser and was very nice but they both told me the same things, no cure and didn't even offer up an alternatives. Only drugs and come back and see me in 2 weeks. After I'd gone through a slew of drugs (see previous post) and spent a ton of money they were ready to put me on Ramicade but I was starting to get a handle on things with diet and Prednisone so I held off. Both times prior to my colonoscopies my entire colon was enflamed and I had lost almost a 3rd of the blood from really bad bloody diarrhea and was ready to be hospitalized. (20+ times to the bathroom daily) I had UC for 6 years, they said I got it from eating recalled eggs from Trader Joes that had salmonella. They announced the egg carton numbers on TV and I went to the refrigerator and sure enough I had them. I had already eaten a half dozen of them. They said it altered my immune system and my brain kept thinking I had food poisoning even though I didn't. But now is seems to me that that incident just threw my entire stomach flora out of balance which is could never fully recover from.

I willing to answer any questions you guys may have because this disease f-in sucks and I'm proof of at least a solid remission is possible. Best of luck.

You cannot upload images or PDFs as attachments to posts. However, you can post links to files stored elsewhere. You can upload an image to free sites like imgur.com, photobucket, picasa or any variety of sharing sites, they show you the URL to post in sites like healingwell.com. There are document sharing sites as well, Google Drive, Microsoft equivalents, etc.

Glad you're doing well and I hope it lasts a long time. There's no knowing with UC what will or will not work for us (no two solutions the same). Just don't write off all medications just in case you flareup and ultimately need them again.

Also, that diet plan was made for me specifically from what the blood test showed. So I don't know if it would be the same for everyone. But look at that beast. When I first got it I thought it was forever!

There are a lot of similarities behind a lot of the diets: SCD, low-FODMAP, IBD-AID, etc. Some here have said before that avoiding gluten and dairy could be the biggest shared benefit of all of the Heinz-57-Varieties of diets discussed (as some of us may have non-celiac-gluten-intolerances and/or similar intolerances with dairy). A thought to inject, at least *shrug*

Was your UC mild/moderate/severe?
What was the extent?
What did the pathology show? Can you show the results?
Did you ever have stool tests?

I actually went into a nearly spontaneous remission once when I was early on in my UC journey. It was interesting. One day I was doing terribly, the next, things turned around. I was thankful for the break, but it didn't last, and the UC eventually resurfaced with a vengeance. It's different for everyone. I am thankful I had surgery and I am done with it. I can't imagine living off a chart of OK foods. I hope the natropathic medicine & diet continues to keep you UC free. Thanks for sharing your story.

This is the most restrictive diet I've seen but I guess its so they clean you out of anything that might feed bad bacteria. I'm just saying that this worked for me perfectly.

notsosickgirl: When I was diagnosed for the first time, I had no idea what I had so when I did my first colonoscopy it was severe. My entire colon enflamed and I almost had to be hospitalize for severe dehydration and blood loss. I have no idea that the pathology was except for what I stated previously. I did multiple stool test which came up negative. No H-Pylori, No hyperthyroid, no food allergies, etc.

brucen36: I was hesitant to post the doctors website as I didn't want it to seem like I was pumping up work for one of my buddies. But at least you can see what his site says and you can make your own judgement on if you want to try it or find a doctor in your area or if it simply sounds like BS. (I'm a total skeptic, if someone immediately was promoting a doctor that cured him/her without any backup info I might think it's BS too.) So I wanted to give specific information first. Also, I found this guy on Yelp. The method he used was similar to the one my friend did but the doctor was too far so I selected this guy because he had the same process and good reviews. I called his office to find out about his process prior to visiting him.

Seriously, I have no stake in this at all except I think the current process of simply suppressing this disease with a life time of drugs is bullcrap and I wasn't willing to do it. Something told me this was curable and seriously I tried everything! Giving up sugar for a year was hard!!! And that helped but ultimately didn't get rid of it. This really worked and it totally made sense to me how it works. So I had to try it. But you have to strictly follow the process! Don't just half ass it and post it didn't work because you were too weak to stick to it. After it's all over, and if it works for you, you can eat all the ice cream and french fries and other crap you want. Good luck!

Also, If someone does try this process either with doctor Jace or another doctor please post your results good or bad. I'm curious if this is something that can help a lot of people like me or was I just lucky.

I looked over the food list and don't see why this couldn't work for some. Certainly wouldn't hurt to try. I am a bit skeptical of any naturopath with "custom" treatments though.

I am yet to see a study of any kind regarding this style of diet (gluten free/dairy free/grain free) which shows that they DON'T work for IBD. Its a shame that everyone is willing to profit off of their own variation of the diet but nobody wants to put in the work of actually proving the diets effective.

The diet seems like it could work, but really it's just another dysbiosis diet... like SCD or low FODMAP.

It also needs expensive blood tests. The comprehensive allergy blood work that naturopaths do can be over $1000.

Can you simply type out the list of supplements you're on?

Yeah the only thing with SCD, and SCD definitely works for me at least by the way, is that it allows lots of fruit and I'm wondering if that could be preventing eradication of the bacterial overload.
