Was an interesting article on an even more interesting website (Science articles written by Scientists):

Perhaps it goes both ways. Mimicking to suppress inflammation and mimicking to induce inflammation. Lot's of other questions come to mind as well.

Thanks for posting that. Was both very interesting and also understandable (which isn’t always the case for science reporting). I suffer from a bad case of confirmation bias when I read articles lik this as it bolsters my belief that dysbiosis is at the root of IBD. We are probably both missing some key commensual bacteria and suffer from Ann overgrowth of harmful bacteria— who knows which came first.

The local immune suppression is an interesting pathway. I wonder how big an effect it has in comparison to some of the other ways microbiome-immune and microbiome-mucosa, and microbiome-brain-gut interactions have been discussed in the literature.

I saw this other article the other day that talks about a fluid-filled layer beneath the mucousa that spans the body, and cancers are believed to be spread via it. Whose to say whatever bacterium is the bane of our existence with UC causing an immune attack, isn't traveling to the eyes, joints, skin, or any number of things where the immune system remounts an attack there causing us more trouble:
