6-months on a steroid (even a steroid enema) is long enough and should not be continued long-term. Steroids can cause irreversible damage to your body, including type ii diabetes, glaucoma, osteoporosis, and other nasties.
You might need stronger dosages of the medications you are taking, and/or additional medications to get off of the steroids.
100-mgs of aza seems like a low dosage (unless you weigh less than 50-kilograms or 110-pounds). It's usually 2.5 to 2.0-mgs per kilograms of body weight. As an example, I weigh 70-kilograms (or 155-pounds), so my daily azathioprine dosage would be 140-mgs (70-kg x 2-mgs) to 175-mgs (70-kgs x 2.5-mgs) a day. I'd ask your gasteroenteroligist if you can take a higher dosage with your current bloodwork (always bloodwork dependent).
Asacol can be taken at a maximum of 4,000 to 4,800-mgs per day depending on brand. I'd ask your gasteroenteroligist if you can take a higher dosage.
Are you taking the mesalamine enemas? If so the at what dosage? You should take one, 4.0-gram mesalamine retention enema at night, before going to bed.
