I don’t think the holistic approach is quite understood here.
I wouldn’t put it in the same bag as natural remedies, though I think they are better than pharmaceutical ones.
A holistic approach means, taking into account your whole life. Not just the medication you take, whether natural or not. Not just your stress levels. Not just your food. Not just the climate you live in. Not just your job. Not just your workout routine. Not just your home life. Not just your family life. Not just what is but also your thoughts. It’s all of it.
Everything that has to do with you and your life. It’s about
finding imbalances, making adjustments, over and over again. Learning your body, and healing it. That is a hollistic approach.
Any medication, if natural or not can only ever be a sticky plaster or something that addresses how any imbalance manifests.
I have been at stages in my life in which I have been sick (not with UC, that was whilst I was smoking and in total remission) where I did not understand why I am sick because it was such a happy time in my life. But that is not all.
There are so many factors!
Sara, for a smoker a cigarette actually does help with stress.
And I feel like what I am trying to explain can actually help a lot of people. Even the ones on “real” meds.
It can never be wrong to look at your life, your habits, thoughts etc from all angles and optimise it. All it will do is give you better health. And I think everybody can use that.
