Honestly, Prednisone is a nightmare. It made me retain so much water and made my feet so dangerously swollen, I actually have really deep awful stretch marks on the TOPS OF MY FEET and it blew out some veins around my ankles. I personally avoid it at all cost.
Ask your doctor about Tacrolimus (Prograf), it's a pill biologic commonly used for people undergoing organ transplants, to ensure their immune systems don't cause the body to reject their new organs. I had zero side effects and it worked GREAT.
Also, don't feel too bad about the Uceris not working for you. It's more so used to calm the less severe symptoms of UC. It's a mild band aid, that's all. If you're having heavier issues, I'd ask for Tacrolimus or maybe Pentasa. Maybe a combination of both, since Pentasa could take a while to build up in your system.
In my opinion, Tacrolimus is like dropping a nuke on a possibly mild situation in this particular case. This person has never even gone beyond the first tier of meds it sounds like. Tacrolimus suppositories might be a good option if she can insert them without too much pain from the fissues
I tried to avoid pred by starting simponi, & maybe that's an option if you're
open to biologics. That or 6mp, but you would need a bridge with 6mp/imuran since it takes a long time to work.
