Okay, please pardon my ignorance... but are you just saying CBD made from industrial hemp would NOT likely be the type of CBD that might alleviate some of my UC symptoms?
Clearly I am a novice with this stuff....
Are there any other alternatives that folks try? I’ve also been reading about essential oils (digize and copaida by “Essential Oils”) and wondering if that might be worth a shot.
Not a problem -- the topic itself is quite complex.
CBD is Cannabidiol. It's a chemical/molecule/substance. Science says it could be beneficial to certain ailments.
THC is Tetrahydrocannabinol. It's also a chemical/molecule/substance. This is what gives weed its ability to make people high.
Both come from the Cannabis plant. Most of us know Cannabis as "weed" aka the pot smoker's drug, grass, ganja, etc.
But within the context of this topic, Cannabis can be 2 forms:
1. Medical Marijuana or Recreational Marijuana. This is quite literally the illicit plant that people use to treat conditions or to get high. Right now you can only get this legally in a few states like CA or CO.
2. Industrial Hemp. This is the same plant as Marijuana, but it has been bred/developed to have a very low THC content so that it can't be used to get high. This can be grown in most states and is considered a crop just like cotton or wheat.
Federal law more or less states that you can extract CBD from Industrial Hemp and it is NOT an illicit drug. You can buy this form of CBD in any state.
You can also extract CBD from Marijuana, but since it originates from the "drug" version of the plant, it isn't something you can just buy in any state.
So the smoke shop in Indiana that sells CBD, is able to do so because that CBD came from Industrial Hemp. HOWEVER, at this time there are no governing bodies (at the federal government level) that certify that something containing CBD ACTUALLY contains CBD. You might get lucky and it will have CBD, or it could just be tree sap or canola oil or anything else.
Most CBD products sell for quite a lot -- Around $60 to $100 for a little medicine sized bottle. There are some very dishonest people who are
opening up CBD shops and selling products that claim to have CBD. It's an easy money grab because the public has very little knowledge about
CBD at this time and has no way to test if something actually contains CBD. (and people can be gullible and they love to spend money on a cure all)
So what I was saying earlier was - If you want to see if CBD will help your UC, you could risk it by buying CBD that comes from Industrial Hemp. I'm sure there are legitimate companies who sell real CBD.
OR, you can take a trip to a state where MJ is legal and go to a dispensary. A MJ dispensary in CA or CO can give you a form of cannabis that is high CBD, and you'll know that it's real because you're in a state where its legal and regulated.
