the negativity on this forum

thanks again for your responses and opinions ill be unsubscribing from this thread and probably wont be using this forum anymore as their is too many trolls/negative people. Im personally finding much better advice and support from my family/GI. I understand that you've battled with this disease probably longer than i have but im really starting to see this forum just like any other place on the internet. It sucks. im so glad for the people who have found the help and relief they needed from this forum. But so what if i slammed the forum after seeing negative posts? thats my right to post about it and share how i felt. i hope the ones who are negative and cant seem to find any positivity in their lives despite having such a terrible disease, one day do. good luck to you all. btw i understand there are people whos been living with it for years and are much older now but im 20 years old and to see so many older veterans who are negative just destroys the hope i have for using this forum for any good. good luck.

Well the definition of a troll is someone who intentionally posts something provocative in order to get the maximum negative reaction, and they often provide nothing meaningful to the site. My cynical side says we've all been trolled by the OP :-p

I think you are making the right choice for you. You seem to lack skill at parsing and contextualizing, and also paint with a very broad brush. Not really good for the internet.

You mean a post like "Victim mentality" -like that??

This is getting pretty ugly folks and soon may be locked... a warning. Seeing folks lob insults back and forth at each other... looks like a case-and-point that we are mean to each other here...

OK fair enough, believe me I have nothing but respect for what people like you have been though. At the end of the day we are all dealing with health issues we'd wish on no one.

I cannot say I buy this persecuted alternative med users bit. Any given day there's multiple active topics on it. I and others congrat all forms of success. I and others suggest diets and supplements despite those labeling me pro hardcore drug or whatever. Are people saying take drugs and alternatives simultaneously, yes, and that's good! Lots have differing opinions and experiences, nobody agrees 100% with me, you, or anyone else on what is the best treatment course (that's not hostile at all lol).

I think I understand where dantebc, beatuc, brucen36, and stereofidelic89 might be coming from. It is a problem you don't see every day but occurs often enough. Here are some sample posts from a thread created recently in Feb, 2018. I was in the Crohn's forum just trying to answer a simple question about the SCD diet.

You also make ignorant remarks about mesalamines, which are not generally useful for Crohn's disease (as they are topical meds) and then call other meds "big guns".
That is why you get accused of spreading fear, and of misleading people.

When I flare, I get sensitivity to gluten. It is the gut microbes that help digest gluten are in disarray. Once the flare is past, gluten does not bother me. In my case it has caused SYMPTOMS. I have no personal evidence it caused inflammation or an autoimmune response.

A few nutrition therapies may directly manipulate immune response, or improve mucosa. Many more can manage symptoms. I do get intense when I see folks confounding symptoms with IBD itself. I also get intense when someone cannot share their story, without casting aspersion on science. Without science we are doomed.

I get much better gut-feel when I eat resistant starches. I love ginger. Just things that work for me.

I'm a "newbie" too as far as joining officially, but I also noticed when I would look stuff up on this particular site (random questions) there was usually one or two people in particular who were kind of negative, BUT when you've got an illness like this, it can be difficult to be positive. I think the diet topic in particular is a sore subject for people because if someone gets on here and says "it worked for me, therefore it works for everyone" some people get defensive because they may have tried really, really hard to make it work for them, but it just didn't. The implication of "the diet works" to people who it hasn't worked for is that they just aren't trying hard enough, which is really hard to take, I think, because they actually have been trying soooo hard. I was diagnosed with severe U.C., and for me personally, dietary changes have made the biggest difference, but that is my personal experience and it may or may not last.

Another thing that I believe happens is there is a progression emotionally with this disease, from being a newly diagnosed person trying to 'fix' it to a frustrated, angry person who is feeling trapped to a (dare I say it) resigned person who is choosing to live with the disease and make the best of it. If a newly diagnosed person manages to get symptoms under control through diet, they want to shout it from the housetops to as many people as possible. Pair that with a hurting, sick, angry person who has tried everything and can't get into remission, you've got a recipe for some verbal clashing.
