Oof.... dealing with a lot of nausea, which is no fun. My doctor and I believe my intestines are slow to wake up (ileus), which I know is a common issue. I was surprised by it because I would feel great all day, pass stools, and not be bloated. Then at night, my abdomen suddenly convulses, and I end up vomiting while having bm. It’s been just one consulvision each night, and then I just feel seasick for the rest of the night. In the morning, I feel better again.
They have me on a liquid diet and no really movement for two days, and they seem confident it will resolve on its own. I sure hope so, because while I can endure many health issues pretty stoically, I am a real wimp about nausea.
Also, I’m never sure about oral meds while on a liquid diet, which I forgot to ask when I talked to the nurse this morning. I know you can’t stop antidepressants suddenly, so I’m taking those and hoping for the best. I stopped Tylenol and ibuprofen, though, and I hope I won’t pay for that in the coming days. So far, no pain thta I can tell.

Are they able to give you something for the nausea? I really hope it resolves in another day or two. I didn't have anything pass for probably 36 hours or so. I was feeling well, but I wanted to go home and they said they wouldn't let me leave until I produced something. Then my surgeon said I could go and seriously, right before I was about to leave, i felt the urge. Early on, gas gave me some cramping and pain, i also had low capacity. I don't think anyone can know for sure how recovery will be for them, but I am sure the worst is in the past - so I am excited for you. smile

No nausea meds, but I haven’t asked either. They sent zofran with me for the drive home, but I think it sometimes makes me feel a little weird, so I haven’t taken it. I had a vomit-free night, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things are waking up!

I feel so much better than I did a few days ago! I stuck with a liquid diet and rested for two days, which wasn’t quite as bad as I had feared. I had some bone broth (finally found some that didn’t taste disgusting to me!), tomato juice, and apple cider vinegar drinks, which my stomach tolerated fine and kept me from getting too bored with just water and Gatorade.
I started back on food, and everything seems to be running normally now. It’s a huge relief. Even though I know recovering from anesthesia/surgery is grueling, I’m always shocked by its intensity when it’s happening.
Now I have to work on putting some long-term weight back on. I think I’m down about 25 pounds since my first surgery a year ago, and I’m looking pretty skeletal. At least eating is a fun assignment! :j
