I don't understand how psyllium is supposed to work. Some people say it adds fiber, bulks up the stools, and slows down diarrhea. Other people say it makes their bowels move faster and stops constipation. I don't get it? Which is true and why?
I don't get it either. My GI told me colons in a flare don't like fiber and he told me to eat low-fiber and puree everything, and eat soups, puddings, yogurts, etc. He told me this would help reduce pain. I feel like when I am flaring badly, it really doesn't matter what I eat. In the past, I have eaten Metamucil wafers while healing from a flare, in an effort to "bulk things up" (not sure if it really did anything. And just a week ago, he thought I was just constipated and told me to take Miralax. I was also taking the Metamucil wafers daily before all hell broke loose last weekend.
