Got my biopsies results showed mild inflammation... nurse said it could be from the prep as it happens all the time . But I can’t see the G I until next week so until then my mind is going to think I have IBD I don’t have microscopic colitis but it did show mild inflammation she did not know were she tried to ease my mind and say usually the G I almost always knows if you have IBD after the colonoscopy and the biopsies just confirms if it’s UC or Chrons she told me it’s most likely from the prep but idk I’m a huge hypochondriac and I’m still having symptoms like stomach noises , upset stomach that leads to diarrhea 2 or 3 times a week depending on what I eat , excessive gas and occasionally mucous I fear it it’s UC or Chrons

Doesn't sound like you have IBD. The doctor would know after your scope. Sounds like IBS. IBD is a million times more severe.

I agree with Sara, it sounds like it's not IBD. You should go out and celebrate!!!

I had mild inflammation like redness (an erythema) before, it was entirely from the prep and I was confirmed to be in a remission (inflammation free). It happens, the prep is harsh and the svope a bit invasive. What I had was superficial according to the biopsies. Yours are likely to be the same.

Ditto the above, you're likely an IBS diagnosis which would explain the diarrhea, gurgles, etc.

IBD is usually a lot of blood with each bowel movement and you did not mention that at all...

Thanks for reply’s ! Never had blood in My bowel movements. My scope was clean . I just had blood work done in the emergency room a couple days ago came back normal . , How does the doc confirm inflammation free now ? Does he do more test ? How does he determine wether this is inflammation from the prep or IBD?

The visual colonoscopy report, and the biopsy report are used together to determine whether you are inflammation-free or have inflammation. Remember that a colonoscopy is a snapshot in time, if you have very mild inflammation and continue your treatment then you might be inflammation-free in a couple more months. Healing is a very slow process, and you should be able to tell if you are on the right path or not based on your test results. Often giving it a bit more time to work/heal is all you need.

i wasn't given any meds or any other treatment after the scope the g i doc said take fiber supplements and avoid dairy for a month but that might change when i see him monday about the mild inflammation . what kind of things should i expect when i see him monday about this? do you think he will order more test even if i already got a scope and blood work done in the E R 3 days ago? also is there a possibility he will diagnose me with early UC or Chrohns on monday by looking at my clean scope an inflammation??sorry for all the questions my anxiety has been all over the place.. when i got my colonoscopy and everything came back normal i finally felt some peace for the first time since struggling with these digestive issues then they told me about what they found in the biopsies and everything hit me all over again my fear an anxiety are back worse then ever


like i said the nurse did try an keep me calm when she said well at least your scope was clear usually the doc can see if its IBD during the scope its just hard for me to stay positive through this

I just want to apologize again . I’m just really overwhelmed under a lot of stress I thought I was IBD free when my scope came back clear now idk what to expect when I see the GI Monday I feel almost certain he’ll diagnose me with IBD when I go speak with him .

unless the biopsy report said inflammation with changes to crypt cell structure it is not IBD. Usually the mile inflammation caused by the prep is not specifically treated.

if you have some GI symptoms persist, then trying one of the IBS antispasmodics might be next. But I doubt on Monday.

The nurse did not say if there were changes to the crypt cell structure all she said was mild inflammation was found sometimes it can be from the prep . If there were changes to the crypt cell structure would she have said that?

When you go in on Monday:

1.) Make sure to get a copy of your colonoscopy report and also of your biopsy reports.

2.) Ask if there were any permanent architectural changes seen, as you an IBD requires those (for example, Crypt Dropout/irregularity, or Disrupted vascular pattern).

3.) Ask about the inflammation seen. Did it look infectious (for example, was it patchy)? Did it start at the rectum and was it continuous? Continuous inflammation is suggestive of UC. Patchy is more likely to be infectious.

4.) Is more stool testing for infectious causes warranted?

I hope you see what I'm getting at, there's a lot to go over and discuss. Nothing you've said screams an IBD/UC, and we do not have the results of your tests to know what was found in great detail.

I have a copy of my colonoscopy report my whole colon looked normal ,i called my nurse about further questions with the biopsies i asked her about any permanent architectural changes Crypt Dropout/irregularity, or Disrupted vascular pattern . she replied with it does not say all it says was mild inflammation found does not state whether its chronic or not she said thats up to the doctor to decide when i see him monday it also does not say if it was continuous inflammation or patchy ill be receiving copy in the in the mail soon . my biopsies also says negative for micro colitis . i asked her if it was chrons or UC would it say in the biopsies she said yes usually says findings similar to chrons or UC something like that

More likely than not, you do NOT have an IBD/UC/Crohns if architectural changes are absent and NOT mentioned at all. Certainly confirm with gasteroenterologist.

If there were permanent architectural changes then they would be stated in the colonoscopy report and/or biopsy report. For example, a colonoscopy report would indicate a disrupted vascular pattern, it's visible to the eye. Biopsies would note any crypt irregularities/dropout/etc as those are only visible through a microscope when looking at tissue samples.

im just confused to why it doesnt mention it at all even in the colonoscopy report? is that normal to not mention architectural changes in the biopsies too ? Like wether it remained normal could have stated

Completely normal for those reports. If it's not there then it's not in the report, standard medical practice. Report lists ONLY abnormalities seen in that patient. Otherwise the reports would be 100's of pages long listing everything NOT found...

thank you for your knowledge ill try to stay positive ! i mean how could it be UC ? even the most mildest UCers experience some sort of blood or urgency or even strong stomach pains right ? even consistent tesenums? i dont have those and about 75- 80% of my stools are solid unless i eat something that stomach doesnt agree with an i diarrhea but i usually feel better after

Maybe you should ask him for Xanax... It seems fairly obvious to me you have IBS and severe anxiety.

Yep I’m working on getting anxiety meds .. for the past 4 months the fear of IBD has giving me severe anxiety to be honest it’s taken over my life I’m constantly thinking about my gut I was so convinced that I had ibd . when I got my clean scope I felt happiness for the first time in a long time . Then the nurse told me about mild inflammation found and my mind is just convinced again even though the nurse told me it would usually say it in the colonoscopy report or biopsies.. I apologize if I broke any rules on this forum I just don’t have anyone to speak to about this

You don't have changes if they aren't in the report. The report wouldn't say "noticed no architectural changes". That is assumed if there is nothing stated. You definitely need to manage this anxiety. You're free of IBD. You should celebrate smile

Ask them if you can do stool tests if you're still concerned, might set your mind at ease once and for all and it's fairly simple. Calprotectin test can show if there's inflammation, if it's normal, there is nothing "inflamed". Stool tests would also rule out pathogens.

B, I see that you have returned back to this forum since you posted the same questions in the crohns forum. You are asking the same questions that has already been answered both here & there. Had the gi thought for a moment when he did your scope that you had an IBD, he would have told you. They know what to look for you. He did the standard thing & said he needed to see the biopsy report. You have at this point had testing done that has been normal. Be extremely thankful & move on with your life.

You had mentioned in the crohns forum your anxiety medication is not working & that is pretty obvious. Get back to your dr & discuss how the anxiety is ruling your every thought. There are plenty of medications that can help with this, along with other professional help. I suspect you are fairly young, life is too short, get some help with your anxiety.

Meanwhile, make a list of questions for the dr, we are not drs here. Not everyone reads every post here, some have already suggested tests that you have already had. I am quite sure this is why you asked about repeating the tests that you have already had in the past month. Repeating tests this soon is useless unless a dr deems them to be necessary.

Get help with your anxiety.

No, you're fine. But I do agree with what straydog posted. You probably shouldn't have even asked for the report as it seems to have just caused more confusion and anxiety, unfortunately.

Yes It definitely made things worse .. I shouldn’t of asked her now my anxiety is off the charts. I went to get more anxiety meds did not work .. keep having panics attacks from fear of UC it sucks I thought I was in the clear when my scope was normal I’m confused why my biopsies didnt say much info like we’re the mild inflammation was found or how the inflammation looks just says mild inflammation found chronic not determined, negative for micro colotis . Also is the blood work they do in the ER different from the blood work the GI gives you? Straydog and Sarah your completely right I’m working on getting my anxiety under control I’m young still 25 years old keep living my life in fear an anxiety of UC even though my test have all come back normal except for the biopsies “mild inflammation “ . I shouldn’t be living my life like this I should be enjoying It with my amazing family just had a son born ... I just want to

It says chronic? I guess you just have to ask the doctor next week when you see him. The bloodwork was probably similar. Dont beat yourself up. Definitely stressful not knowing what the hell is wrong with yourself, but it does sound like probably just IBS. I dont know if I have ever gotten one of my reports. My doctor sends me a letter stating if the biopsies are normal or the extent of my inflammation, sometimes with pictures, but it is never real in-depth.
