Hi guys so after 8 months of bloody mucus pain in tummy and diarrea docter thinking I had colitis I have had my colonoscopy (was fine didn't feel a thing! Was super worried) I have been diagnosed with procotis and have been given mesalazine from the hospital. that was 3 weeks back and now I am at a bit of a loss still in pain unsure as to why I have got procotis and what will happen now would just like some advice as to what will happen next as have not got any letters or no support really feeling a bit lonely as people aren't understand the pain I am in.also is proctits a form of colitis? Just trying to work it out from the web but thought it would be best to post my own message thanks x

Welcome to the forum. Do you know if you have Chronic, Ulcerative Colitis or an Infectious-Colitis? Although the two sound very similar they have very different treatments and prognosis's.

Thank you smile No just on my colonoscopy report it says colon:proctitis and then aftercare mild proctitis affecting the distal 2cm of the rectum that's pretty much it so to say I'm confused is putting it lightly ! X smile

They likely won’t tell you what type of proctitis until biopsy results come back. When is your follow up visit? Ulcerative Proctitis is a type of UC, just limited to the rectum. If you aren’t feeling any better, please call your doctor and let them know. Are you on oral meds or rectal meds? Often that inflammation so low down is very stubborn to treat, rectal meds work best that low.

August the 18th my docters are so busy but I'm going to try and get an earlier appointment as feeling pretty rubbish. they are rectal meds 3 times a day not long been on them so haven't seen a difference yet. my docter wanted me to have a colonoscopy before I got referred to the gastro team so I will have to see what she says about it on the follow up thank you for the reply smile

I have proctitis as well. I had the exact same symptoms as you. My thoughts and support are with you; I remember how isolated I felt; none of my family or friends really understood what I was going through! This forum offers nice support and also educates.

Definitely be sure to find a GI doctor you like and trust, as well as a medicine plan that works for you. I've been learning about this disease for the past year, mostly through this site and my own internet research. It's a crazy, stubborn disease, that's for sure!

I am currently on Apriso 4x (oral) and Canasa (nightly rectal), and have never really been in full remission. I have had good months and bad ones, so now I am in the process of deciding whether or not to switch to biologics (Entyvio) that are administered intravenously every few weeks. A huge time commitment for me (full time working mom of two), so that is a huge bummer. However, I am anxious to get in remission and get my "life" back.

Thank you for your message smile just from your posts has made me feel better that's there is people out there that understand me! Yes hopefully can find one through my docter and get the right medicine needed as I am in constant pain that does sound a big commitment but hopefully it will help to get you into remission and start feeling better Im lucky that I work for myself so I don't have to be calling in sick all the time just want to start feeling normal! X
