Have been into a definite better phase of this flare. Bleeding seems to have stopped, no tummy discomfort or bloating at all (that’s pretty much a norm for me flare or not) and formed stools. The enemas aren’t causing me any urgency feeling now at night (man I don’t miss that feeling every night) Took 3 weeks on the new meds for bleeding to cease Quincy, may be in a constipation phase as before bed I have smaller tiny bit and certainly a lot less. Tracking the symptoms closely so as you said I know how to see it starting next tome!
Again, thanks for the support on here. It’s a real lifeline!
Planning to keep nightly and foam every morning for another week still before tapering (slowly!!)

Nope....do them for another 2 at the very least.

So, you are only on one type of enema nightly or using two daily. Im lazy to read through....apologies. but a very important question.

Hey Quincy,

Doc said start the taper two weeks after the bleeding stops...is that what you mean?
I am on nightly mesalazine enemas and budenofalk every morning.

I spoke too soon and was greeted before bed with a ball of blood tinged mucus! Ain’t no tapering in my near future! Oh well... back to the start we go!

Just to clarify that the doc said to taper the morning steroid 2 weeks after no bleeding? I agree with that because you're still on the nightly mesalamine.

Do you normally have night bms....or is the majority during the morning?

Welcome to the process....been there many times, and my reaction would be the same as Mr. Bean when stuff goes wrong.

If your stools are harder, you can add foods to soften the stool or loosen the stool.

Thanks for your updates....you do seem to be following a fairly classic healing pattern.

They want you to taper the mesalamine? I never understood when they want that. I was using them "as needed", which for me was nightly. I also had cortfoam, steroid enemas, and a variety of suppositories in my arsenal for use when needed. I would often use something in the AM and something in the PM. Definitely keep using rectal meds and wait to taper anything until you're 100% for quite some time. It's good you've seen improvement. Fingers cross that this morning was just an "off BM"

He said to taper enemas to every other night then the same with foam then drop foam but keep every two days on enemas eventually using suppositories. Nowhere near any of this!
Quincy, I have 2 BMs a day. Morning and night. Unfortunately a bit of blood again tonight but none this morning. Patience yet again is my mantra!
See my GI on the 17th of September next and not stopping anything anytime soon!

When you taper the morning one....it should be slower. Do NOT taper the night one.

Seems you will continue till you see the doc.....i suggest you ask him to take a look-see with a rectoscope that day.

Look into probiotics for sure.

I started some last weekend and do think they are helping also. Really good medical grade 100 billion.
I will push for a check inside.
Maybe a silly question but if they know it’s proctitis what would they look for? Rookie knowledge here!

The doc could see about 6 inches into the rectum....he will see if there is inflammation, and how fragile the tissue in your rectum is to touch regarding bleeding, and how high the inflammation is.

Good on you regarding the probiotics. Take them at bedtime about an hour after meds. Does it state if they're enteric coated?

Another few weeks of healing and then last night and tonight a tiny (but there) ball of red tinged mucus again. So bloody frustrating!
Still daily foam in morning and liquid 4g every night haven’t tapered anything.
See my GI Monday. Just feel so “bummed” out!

What oral med are you on? I'm just wondering if it's a casing that's basically quite broken down through the digestive process. It will look like a piece of blood in the stool. And did you have tomatoes or red-skinned veggie?

Doc appt is around the corner....and.....you are healing. Keep that perspective. It's not all or nothing. This is the mental aspect of it, and it's very emotionally exhausting.

Push for the look-see because you need the confirmation, and discuss if things are on track related to the meds you're on.

Hi Q am on mezavant and budenoside it was defo mucus though sad
I suppose I am quite nervous that my GI want be okay with my progress and will up the meds. I feel so healthy except for these random nights when the mucus is back.
It’s true though, I have made massive progress since the peak of blood a few times a day and cramping etc. so optimistic the path I am on is a good one. Thanks again for listening Quincy (and anyone else reading!)

From current mezavant and budenoside (which mneeds to be tapered soon) to I don’t know what if I still am seeing blood.
I don’t think my case warrants heavier/next tier drugs but I am no expert!

He mentioned Imuran today as a next step if inflammation continues or worsens by the next visit in mid November- I am currently at 3.5 months flaring so that would bring me to nearly 6. I truly think it will be done before then though!.... For now I continue but only stick with the steroids (budenoside) for 3 months total.
He did mention suppositories possibly being better than the enemas for proctitis like I have...to do them every other night. Have you used these Quincy?

You can taper the steroid using the supps during the days. I've used them in the past, but the enemas 4g work for me at maintenance. Supps for supportive, not full treatment.....but if the majoritynof inflammation is really low, they can be used twice daily.
You are still on the 4g salofalk at night?

So did he take a look?

What was the full extent of your original diagnosis?

I asked but He didn’t look but said he is sure it is confined to last few cms at this point. Originally was 10-12 cm (this sound right for mild/limited proctitis?)
He doesn’t want me to taper the foam yet, just the enema to every other night with supps alternative nights. Tapering the oral budenoside only...
I don’t plan on ever stopping enemas completely no matter what! You have me convinced. It’s confusing with him telling me what to do though and I am assuming I need to trust him! 😅

Ps. Yes, was taking the 4g nightly and now every other night and supps alternative nights. Not going to taper enemas at night any further. I trust them to help now.
