Thanks so much to everyone for the feedback. I have definitely made significant changes to my diet throughout this journey. It took me a while because in the beginning many doctors would tell me that my diet had nothing to do with my UC. I actually went to a Naturopath and had blood work done to get a full panel on my food sensitivities and allergens. It was extremely helpful and validated a lot of my inclinations about
certain foods triggering my symptoms. I now have removed trigger foods from my diet including all dairy (butter is a big culprit), whey, carrageenan, HFCS, etc. I also don't eat meat of any kind. I have also used enemas on and off throughout treatment which can be very helpful however tough to use during flare ups. I have been reading a lot on studies done in England and Italy and there is research backing the efficacy of elemental shakes for IBD. In the studies I have read, elemental shakes were more successful in achieving and maintaining patient remission than steroid medications. Often I find that not much formal research has been done on alternative medicine so the widely held view is that it doesn't work or it's just wishful thinking. As more studies are funded and completed and natural medicine is taken more seriously I think we will see more success stories. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and treatment and I respect that. I just know that I personally will continue to educate myself about
natural alternatives to healing my body. Through doing so I have learned things on my own that have benefitted my condition. If it worked for even one person it could work for me. Whats the harm in thinking outside the box and having hope? I will be sure to post updates of any progress.
