Hi there, initially my GI thought I had mild ulcerative proctitis, as the only visible inflammation was in the rectum. Within 2 weeks of enemas, that felt like it was almost cleared up. Normal BMs, 1 a day, no urgency, no mucus.
When the histology reports came back though, it revealed mild pancolitis. So I was then put on oral meds as well. This felt like it actually made the flare worse, and I haven't had a bettering of symptoms since this time. Initially I was on 2.4g of mezavant daily, which I reacted badly too (a return of all symptoms, only much worse). After 3 weeks, we changed meds to asacol, also at 2.4g daily, and kept up with the nightly retention enemas.
I'm waiting on cal tests to come back this week, as I actually feel like my symptoms have changed since diagnosis 3 months ago. While some have disappeared almost (mucus, urgency, rumbly tummy etc), others have started (lots of cramping, pain, night sweats). So I assume the meds haven't done their job, to be honest.
From what I've heard though, its a juggling act to find what works best. After 3 months of feeling depleted I'm getting pretty sick of myself though. Best of luck with your situation- none of this is easy.
