Briggs does not seem to monitor this site anymore but a simple google search will give you his entire protocol.

"H. Diet:

Reduce the ratio of pro-inflammatory Omega 6 fatty acids to anti-inflammatory Omega 3 fatty acids. Avoid the following:

Fiber (this will be added in Phase 2 once inflammation subsides)
High sulfur foods, sulfite and sulfur preservatives
Protein
Gluten (most grains)*
Lectins (legumes, nuts and seeds)*
Sugar
Processed foods containing additives
Any foods that you have a high IgA response to. If you can’t afford IgA testing, be vigilant and monitor your diet for irritants. Be that aware corn, soy and dairy are big offenders.

The toxic properties of foods marked with an asterix above can be reduced by sprouting the grains and soaking the nuts, seeds, and legumes in a process called ‘activation’ (while soaking, phytic acid and lectins are broken down and released). These foods can be introduced in their activated form in Phase 3. Some grains, in particular millet, sorghum, and white rice have minimal lectin activity and don’t seem to need special treatment.

Note though that gluten should continue to be avoided for the rest of your life. Gluten has been shown to trigger an immediate leaky gut in everyone, whether they have celiac disease or not (it just lasts longer in people with celiac). We want to avoid that at all costs.

I just read all the post on this page I really don't know much about the science or or how people get Colitis I been taking bupropion for almost three weeks after a terrible flare I was on 40 mg predizone I weaned my way down to 10 mg Im amazed on how quick this medicine worked but Im not getting my hopes high because im still on predizone Im also on Lialda and Canasa I try to eat Healthy. The first week or 2 I had the jitters and mood swings but that's all gone the only side effect I have now is insomnia but that could be from the predizone. I take 3 100mg bupropion hcl every day I consider my self in remission I have no urgecy I go once or twice a day its a good feeling leaving the house not worrying about soiling your self even if this last a month it was worth it I think its worth a try Im going to read Briggs protocol and see if it could work for me if I ever flare again.

Hi everyone, I think the logic behind this protocol and the TNF-a inhibition in particular makes a lot of sense, but I can't easily get Wellbutrin to start out.

The two other mentioned inhibitors (other than biologics like Remicade) were Curcumin/Turmuric and Quercetin (which he recommends getting from Rutin), but no dosage is mentioned that I could see, not even a guess or rough ballpark figure. Does anybody know what kind of dosage may be appropriate for Rutin for example? Rutin seems to commonly come in 500mg pills but I suspect to be the sole performer of this function a higher dose is going to be needed right?

I have so far been allergic to the normal medications, except for Prednisone, so exploring alternate ideas is definitely on my radar so I can try find a way to wean off the steroids.

As for Briggs protocol in particular I think the logic around TNF-a inhibition sounds very plausible. Remicade targets TNF-a as well for example and often gets very good results.
The rough idea is that TNF-a inhibits butyrate (and other SCFA) uptake. Butyrate actually helps inhibit TNF-a however. So an overreaction of TNF-a to increased intestinal permeability, such as in individuals with UC, can cause a feedback problem where more TNF-a (and more inflamation along with it) means less things that inhibit TNF-a.
The other problems with not having good butyrate uptake is that butyrate actually can be inflammatory in itself if it stays in the colon, so further problems with this cascade are extra sources of inflammation and, as butyrate is a primary energy source, less of that too!

There is a ton of info there and he has a reasonable amount of evidence behind the various pieces (really needs some human RCTs though), but the core idea is that some form of TNF-a inhibition is likely critical in achieving a lasting remission.

3g of curcumin seems like a lot, unfortunately I can't take mesalazine but will check that out.
