Hi its been more then 3 years since i was diagnosed with UC.last week colonoscopy revealed pancolitis with pseudopolyps.biopsy showed no cancerous cell.
40 mg pred started 8 days ago with 75 mg Azathioprine and 5 mg folic acid tablet and a probiotic capsule.right now BM'S are 2-3 only in morning.i am eating light food and weight 64kg,i am 26 yo.ever since my diagnosis i was never in remission more then 4-5 months.so i want to ask is this how it gonna be or i will be able to achieve longer remission and if my body only in remission due to steriods then how long it takes me tp get off pred
.i am also taking 3.6 g mes per day

The first 5-years after our diagnosis is the time our UC will get worse in severity or extent, if it is going to. I was similar to you, started off mild and progressed to severe and needed remicade within 2-years. There's no knowing, UC prognosis can be wildly different person-to-person.

Pseudopolyps are false-polyps, caused as inflammation heals. They are not cancerous, fall off on their own, and are nothing to worry about. I had several and they are now gone.

Expect about 3-months until you know if Azathioprine works.

I was talking 50mg Azathioprine before that and only this time he increased it to 75 and will be increasing to 100 mg after 2 days..how important the role of Azathioprine?

UC involves inflammation within the large intestine. First they try anti-inflammatory medications. Second they try medications that weaken our immune system using medications like Azathioprine. When our immune system attacks, it uses white blood cells (WBCs) to cause inflammation. Blood tests during flares show extremely high amounts of WBCs. Azathioprine reduces the total amount of WBCs that our immune system can create. The less WBC we have the less inflammation can be caused, which results in less UC symptoms.

How much role diet plays in this situation? Can severity of colitis can be reduced with changes in diet? Or diet plays a very little role?

I think everyone is different. I was Dx i think in 2007. Hsd some mild mod flares but didnt have a severe one til 2015 so those first 8 years weren't too bad. Just had a really bad flare and colectomy ileostomy the other day.
I think everyone is different but good news is there are new drugs being developed. I was ok for 3 yrs ln biologics before they stopped working. I was 23 when i was diagnosed.
No-one knows what the future holds but try to stay positive and good luck!

Diet and UC is poorly studied within scientific literature. There is some new research within that area and possibly have some new studies by the CCFA and others in the near future. A good read with what's currently known about UC and diet: /www.dietvsdisease.org/ulcerative-colitis-diet/

Right now, anecdotally, some say diet has helped with their UC. So, if you want to experiment with diets yourself then that's yet another tool to try. SCD, IBD-AID, and other diets are often mentioned and tried by us. No guarantees of them working, just another thing to try!

Thanks everyone.if situation gets worse,i will choose surgery over biologics because success rate in biologics are only 50% so i think surgery is best option after medication treatment

Keep in mind that statistic is for people that have failed lower meds that get many people in remission. I am on Entyvio, and while I am not in remission, life is manageable with my symptoms. I don't know that they will jump to surgery without at least giving biologics a try. I was scared of them at first, but Entyvio has been very gentle for me.

The success rate of all UC medications is about 65%: mesalamines, immunomodulators, and biologics. There's a stubborn 25% of us that do not respond to anything at all. I would try biologics before surgery, me and many others have achieved a remission from them. And having a remission is preferable to having surgery when it is possible to achieve one. Try and see!

Biologics are also very expensive here.surgery is cheaper then even first course of biologics and i see it as a permanent solution to end this all and nowadays surgery is very easy and quick and success rate is very high.hope i will get better with pred and Azathioprine

as you can see in my signature, i was dx'd with pancolitis in 2003 - diet has controlled my UC since maybe 2013 (sorry, can't remember when exactly) - no meds since that time -
